Sorry I do not have a suggestion - never ran into that specific problem but I do have a problem with the oldest census not naming the members of the family - jut putting how many of each sex in each age category - that is of little help at all! By the Civil War my folks were in Ga and S.C. having left Virginia not long after the Revolution - guess they waited so they could travel safely, although they seemed to always travel in groups with plenty of adult men and rifles - guess the Indians were a problem too. If I think of anything or run across something similar, I will let you know. It could be they are not showing up if using an index of only Heads of Household as they may have been living for a time with another family in a place where they wanted to enlist at. My Andrew Jackson on one of the US Censuses if found under this manner.................................. His Mother and siblings left and went to Fulton Co., GA he is still back in Cherokee Ct. AL with a neighbor family awaiting to enlist into the 19th AL. Inf. out of Centre............... Just a thought!
