    3. I need help with the following land, can anyone provide clues or suggestions where this land might be located? Thanks, Derrell Oakley Teat Below are references to land that my Spearman family owned. I have searched & searched for the land & I cant find it. In 1666 John Spearman bought with 3,300 lbs of good tobacco 400 acres on the south side of Rappahannock River in Settingbourne parish from Peter Cornewll. In 1667 he bought another small piece in a bend of the river from Peter Cornewell. John is assumed to have died before 1683 evidenced by by the following petition dated March 1683: Thomas Job Spearman s/o John Spearman deceased did with the consent of his mother Susannah Bennett petition the court that Jno Willard might be appointed his guardian. He married Elizabeth Martin by 1697 & gave 100 acres to John Willard. Sept 1719 Robert Payne sold Thomas Job 100 acres for 25 pounds current money " corner tree of the lands of Mr. Bernard Gains it beifn the land the said Gains now lives on, near a run side called Cat ? Swamp." References to Spearman's Swamp by others land: In 1719 Robert Payne conveyed to him 272 acres of contigous land in Spearmans swamp adjoining Nathaniel Conduit. In 1766 in Essex Co. deed book #30 p. 85 we learn that John Daniel of St. Annes Parish sold 10 A. to Job Spearman. His wife Sarah signs. William BIZWELL of St. Anne's Parish, Essex Co., "quit claime unto William THORP" of same for all rights to 141 acres and 4 poles of land in Essex Co. near Spearman's Swamp and Gaines Swamp, and adjacent to land of Thomas THORP, land of George ANDREWS, land of Cornelius REYNOLDS -- (said ac) being land sold by the said William THORP "to my father Jeremiah BIZWELL, dec'd" on Mar 19, 1727, who devised to seller / Witnesses: Joseph SORRELL, William REYNOLDS, Thomas DOWER / date Imprimus I give and bequeath unto my son William Tharpe the Land plantation in the forest that I bought of Mr. Robt. Paine, excepting one hundred acres to him and his heirs for Ever Lawfully begotten of his own body...as for the hundred acres excepted - my will is when that is taken out that it be taken Square beginning where upon George Andrews Swamp or Spearman Swamp and runing upon Mr. Gaines's line the which hundred acres of Land I Give and bequeath to my son Thomas Tharpe and the plantation where I now live withall the Land thereunto belonging to him and his heirs for Ever Lawfully begotten of his own body. The Spearman family sold the property in 1785 to Thomas Pitts & moved to South Carolina. The property at that time was said to be in Caroline Co. I have been to the Caroline court house & cant find anything.
