I have been reading and researching the Chewning's in Virginia. We must be related. Let's see; my grandfather is John William Chewning, his father: Samuel MacDaniel Chewning, his father: William Yancy Chewning (died in the Civil War), his father: John J. Chewning and his father Samuel Chewning of Caroline Co., Virginia. Could we be related ? The Samuel Chewning of Caroline Co., Va. was married to Jeanette Nancy Garrett. Their children were: Sarah "Sally", John, Frances,Garrett, Mildred, Lucy, and Nancy Chewning. This same Samuel Chewning must have moved away from Virginia and married again in South Carolina to a Mary Jackson. The names of his second family were Anna, Elijah, Nancy, Catque, Georgia "Mary" Sarah "Salley", Cathrine, Harriet, Susannah, Jane, John J. Chewning, Lameul Eliza, and Mary Francis.I am presently trying to figure out if there was another Samuel Chewning or if he had two different families. Also, I am anx! iously awaiting a manuscript on the Chewning's in Virginia. Let's see if we can make some solid connections. Hope to hear back from you.
