Joseph Timberlake of Caroline Co. sold his business on 1-6-1791 to John Taylor. Regarding the Gravatt surname: This line descended from Col. Miles Cary of Warwick Co Va.. Miles came from England about 1645. Dr. John James born Port Royal 11-27-1817. His grandfathers were Col. Larkin Smith of King& Queen Co & Col. John Ambler of Jamestown. His wife was Eliza Ambler Smith . Their son John James II was born 5-14-1853 in Port Royal. He married India Wray Jones and they had John James III and R.A. Goodwyn. John II was a preacher. Charles U. Gravatt son of John James I, was born 6-1849. He became a surgeon. His wife is not named, but a son Marshall is. William Loyall son of John James I was born 12-15-1857 in Port Royal. Attended Seminary and became a preacher. He married Sidney Peyton of Richmond and had 3 children: William Loyall Jr, Cary and Mary. I don't know if this fits into your research, but it is all I have on these 2 surnames. Elaine
