Seconds Jesse Chewning Dec. 12, 1798 My Samuel Chewning was only in Caroline County records married at least twice, died in 1816 children named in will. May have had more children, as there was a court record one page long the suit was dropped and no other information available but apparently William Chewning the son of Samuel was supposed to pay out the estate to the heirs and he hadn't done so, along with the children named in Samuel Chewning's will that are mentioned in the suit is a James Smith and wife Jane Smith. It appears that Jane was a Chewning, due a part of the estate of Samuel Chewning. This James Smith was the brother of my GGGG Grandfather John R. Smith who married Lucy Chewning, daughter of Samuel. Makes sense as James and wife Jane Smith named a son Garret Smith. Author: llynnmetzger Surnames: Chewning Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.virginia.counties.caroline/154.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi: My name is Lynn Chewning Metzger. I have been reading and researching the Chewning's in Virginia. We must be related. Let's see; my grandfather is John William Chewning, his father: Samuel MacDaniel Chewning, his father: William Yancy Chewning (died in the Civil War), his father: John J. Chewning and his father Samuel Chewning of Caroline Co., Virginia. Could we be related ? The Samuel Chewning of Caroline Co., Va. was married to Jeanette Nancy Garrett. Their children were: Sarah "Sally", John, Frances,Garrett, Mildred, Lucy, and Nancy Chewning. This same Samuel Chewning must have moved away from Virginia and married again in South Carolina to a Mary Jackson. The names of his second family were Anna, Elijah, Nancy, Catque, Georgia "Mary" Sarah "Salley", Cathrine, Harriet, Susannah, Jane, John J. Chewning, Lameul Eliza, and Mary Francis.I am presently trying to figure out if there was another Samuel Chewning or if he had two different families. Also, I am anx! iously awaiting a manuscript on the Chewning's in Virginia. Let's see if we can make some solid connections. Hope to hear back from you.
