According to most John Walden of Caroline CO researchers, this information is usually included although not confirmed as factual. John Walden's estate was known as Walden Towers and adjoined the estate of Edmund Pendleton whose estate in Caroline Co was known as Edmundsbury, I believe. The land is also near Stanhope, still in use. John Walden and wife Mary (surname not known) had eleven children. I descend from Joanna who married John Gayle. From DNA testing now being done, John Walden may have been a brother to Charles Walden of Stafford CO. I have information from printed material on Caroline CO but am looking for data on the John Walden family and connecting families prior to 1794 which is his death year. Caroline CO is a "burned" county and records are difficult to fine. Regards, Eldred Melton Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am very interested in establishing the connection between John Taylor, Edmund Pendleton, and John Walden. John Walden may have been an overseer for Edmund Pendleton; however, John Walden's son is also connected with John Taylor in the search for land warrants in KY after the Rev. War. Do you have any information on the connections, business, personal or otherwise, of these four men? Author: ElaineRussell29 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.virginia.counties.caroline/2474.40.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, I have checked the above requested resource for the Taylor surname, specificly John Taylor and possible granddaughter Sophia. The Taylor family listed here is that of James Taylor. This James was the husband of first Frances and secondly to Mary Gregory. They had Ann, Mary, Edmund, Elizabeth, James and John. This John married a Catherine Pendleton and was the father of the John Taylor of Caroline listed below. This is large so I will abreviate to only family genealogy. John Taylor born at "Mill Hill" in Caroline Cout 1754. He was orphaned at the age of 10 and adopted by his maternal uncle Judge Edmund Pendleton. He was tutored in the home and afterward attended Wiliam and Mary College and graduated in 10. With a study in law he joined his uncles law office in Bowling Green. He was licensed to practice in 1774. Upon his majority he enlisted in the military under Patrick Henry. Upon his retirement, which was short lived, he purchased a large estate on the Rappahannock River called "Hazelwood". He died there on August 21, 1824. Within the 9 pages of written material, there is no mention of a Wife or children. In the history of Edmund Pendleton it explains that his mother was Mary Taylor. In the History of John Penn it names John Penns mother as Catherine Taylor. Here it shows a John Taylor having married a Penn, but it is believed that it was a sister of John Penns other than a daughter. Catherine was the daughter of a John Taylor, but not the John Taylor from Caroline Co. I hope this collage is in some way helpful Elaine Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hello Both John Taylor b. 17 Jul 1727 and his uncle, Judge Edmund Pendleton died childless, although John married Betsy Lyne and Judge Pendleton married twice, Sarah Pollard and Elizabeth Roy. Judge Pendleton DID have children but none survived their childhoods. However, to the best of my knowledge both John Taylor b. 18 Nov 1696 and Catherine Pendleton b. 8 Dec 1699, father of John Taylor b 17 Jul 1726 lived long lives, but at some time they migrated to Granville Co., N.C. John d. 22 Mar 1780 and Catherine 26 Jul 1774. It could be that young John was left with his uncle in order to attend The College of William and Mary, I would like to ask anyone who is a descendant of this branch of Col. James Taylor's line, and who has proven any of this information or any other information on this family to set it straight with documentation other than the numerous books about the families. With the Pendleton, Gaines, Taylor, Rucker, and Herndon families are marrying in close circles, and all naming their children after each other, it is well within the realm of probability that I have rec'd the incorrect information. However a large group of these families did migrate to N.C. before the Revolution, and from there split up - some staying, some going to Tennesse, and another large group migrated to Georgia where they founded the town of Ruckersville in Elbert County, Ga. (at that time Wilkes County) after the Revolution. I have never found any book that listed all the names of those who went to N.C., or where they migrated from that point. As many books about this family that have been written, most do not contain good documentation, rather they feed off of each other... it would be nice to get this right! Even if it is not my direct line. I certainly cannot 'boast' to having all the names of this HUGE family, however in those I do have, I do not find a Sophia. Diane Stark Sanfiilippo descendant Col. James Taylor and Mary Gregory through their daughter Mary married Capt. Henry Pendleton JOHN PENDLETON COL ,(Henry, Philip), was born 1719 in King and Queen County, Virginia, and died April 1799 in Hanover County, Virginia. He held various offices of honour and trust in the Colony of Virginia, and in the Senate. He was appointed by a convention of delegates of the counties and corporations in the Colony of Virginia, at Richmond Town, on Monday, July 17, 1775, to sign a large issue of Treasury Notes. These notes were issued upon the credit of the colony, taxes and duties having been suspended to suit the distressed circumstances of the Colonists. The issue was about £350,000, and the ordinance read: "Of the notes to be so issued, 50, 000 shall be of the denomination of one shilling, and shall be signed by John Pendleton, Jr., Gentleman, which notes last named shall be on the best paper." John Pendleton was appointed, by the Governor of Virginia, judge of her courts, at a time when they were composed of the leading men of the Colony.
