    1. [VACAROLI] Broaddus Wagon Train to Texas
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: LindaHouck69 Surnames: Broaddus Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.virginia.counties.caroline/4118/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I live in Burleson Co. Texas, where the wagon train led by Andrew Broaddus settled. The Historical Commission is trying to compile a list of the settlers, black and white, who were a part of that wagon train. There were supposedly 50-60 families, approx 200 people in this caravan. We do a few names, but need more. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank You. 2. How old is your map? Is it a Historical Map? I was just wondering since the I am related to the Young family of the area. Also connected to the Chapmans and Durrett's also. Both George and Diana Durrett are in my database. All of my relations settled in the the area in and around Fayette County Kentucky in the late 1700's. 3. Dorothy, Here is some info that I have gathered in the past.: Robert Anderson arrived in that is now Hanover Co. between 1670-1677 as one of 80 persons tansported to VA by charter to George Chapman by Wm. Berkeley, Governor. (Family Branches Short Stories of families attached to our Smith family.) Mullens Ed. was transported 22 April, 1670 to New Kent Co. and probably settled somewhere on the 4,150 acres granted to George Chapman for transporting of Edward and 32 others. It may be significant that this land was situated on Pamunkey Neck where in 1699 Mathew Mullins is granted land for transporting other persons. After researching where Pamunkey Neck and thinking it was in MD this is what I found: "Pamunkey Neck is a strip of land lying between the Pamunkey River on the South and the Mattaponi River on the North, it is situated in the upper part of the present day King Wm. Co and the lower part of Caroline Co. Also of interest is where the town of Goodloes in Spotsylvania Co. VA was, between Milford and Partlou in VA. That is where the Goodloes had settled and the family the Dianna Durrett was from. These areas seem to be just across the Co. lines of Spotsylvania and Caroline. In an old map that I have that indicates where Goodloes use to be (sent to me by my cousin) it appears that Goodloes VA was on the border of Caroline and Spotsylvania at that time! I believe it was 1880s. This is interesting stuff! Research done in the 70's got us back to John( b.1750 in Prince Edward county Va.). John is the son of Battalie .. John later moved to Jefferson county TN. where he died in 1816. His son Benjamine moved to north alabama. I am convinced that this link is good. However, I can't convince other family members. Battalie Harrison was killed in the revoluntiary War at Fort washington , New York in 1776 . Please check your reference and see what proof you can supply that Lawrence is in Fact the uncle of my John . Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Karen: Do you have the book Virginia County Records by Crozier Vol. 1 is Spotsylvania Co. Most of the records where George Chapman is named as witness might help since you know the dates. If you don't have this book would you need the whole court records? 3. Dorothy Here is a part of what is written below information on Jonathan Chapman who is the father of Geo. b. abt 1700 and lived in Spotsylvania. This is not the Geo. b. abt 1710 from Caroline Co. VA.: He came to this country from Eng. with his son Nathanial. Died before the year 1749 and was buried at "Summer Hill" on the banks of the Patomac near Four Mile Tun. The Right Honorable Thomas Fairfax deeded part of his plantation Thoroughfare" to Jonathan Chapman June 24, 1737. Thoroughfare was in Stafford Co., VA and these two plantations became seats of the two branches of the Chapman family. 3. This info comes from RootsWeb's WorldConnect project: Pre-1776 Charles Co. MD Families: Wills, Court It gives the information on Geo. Chapman Sr. of Spotylvania Co. VA and relatives. following all of this info. There is a note. JH note: I can't place this George Chapman d. Caroline Co. Might be an undocumented son of George Chapman that d. 1747 in Spotsylvania. Geo. d. Spots. didn't name any children in his will. He was the brother of _____________________________________ were the sons of Jaonathan Chapman and Jane Taylor Chapman Murdock. History of Caroline Co. VA This does not give an author! Wonder if some numbers are transposed? page 315 1772 William Marshall exc/adm. of Diannah Goodloe [along with Geo. Chapman, John Marshall, George Durrett] Children 1 b. Dec. 1736 in Spotsylvania Co. VA This we know is our Geo. b. Dec. 1736 Then it says Marshal lFamily info and gives a web address. I will go there and see what I can find. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dorothy Wogh" <dorothy@napanet.net> To: <vacaroli@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 31, 2008 5:32 PM Subject: Re: [VACAROLI] Caroline Co. 3. Karen: In the book History of Caroline County Virginia by Wingfield pg. 315. Does not mention any Chapman's. Talks about churches and Rev. Seaman. pg. 319 talks about the Carmel Baptist Church but does not mention Goodloe and Waller. pg. 409 talks about Reuben Chapman going to Arkansas and later becoming Governor, but first he read law in the office of his brother Judge Samuel Chapman. In the 1810 census there is a Reuben Chapman living in the same district as my Abner Chapman. I think this Reuben is the father of the Governor. There is a book written by Mrs. Lillian Chapman Hudson of Alameda, Ca. published the genealogy of the Chapmans in 1894. I don't know if Sutro's would have a copy of this book. We use to have a bus that took us to Sutro's or the Archives, but lately they haven't done that. In the book Colonial Caroline, A History of Caroline Co by Campbell pg. 352 Caroline Jurors, 1732 - 45 with number of panels they served. Samuel Chapman 4 George Chapman 1 George Goodloe 2 pg. 482 Deaths 1770 George Goodloe ex Henry Goodloe pg. 483 Death 1771 Diannah Goodloe ex George Chapman pg. 476 1757 George Chapman ex Ann & George Chapman, Jr. Beginning on pg. 219 it tells about Renewal of the Fight for Religious Freedom. Mr. Waller and Henry Goodloe. I don't know if I have helped you, but hope there is some information here of value to you. 3. No Dorothy, I did not get that information yet. If you have the book, please help me with the information. There were 2 Geo. Chapmans in the same area at the same time and who were born about 1700 and the other b. about 1710 . One was in Spotsylvania and the other in Caroline Co. The question is if they were related!? Maybe we will never know. However, there was a Geo. Chapman who came in the 1600s to that area and a Johnathan Chapman who came from the same area of England. Johnathan if I remember correctly was the father of the Geo. who was living in Spotsylvania. Her line comes down from Lawrence Harrison, son of Andrew Harrison and Elizabeth Battaile. I'm not sure what part of the line you are having problems documenting. Write me at my email, slayoct@yahoo.com, and we can compare notes. Steve Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. However the names John Martin and Letitia keep reappearing in each generation. I have John Martin marring Letitia Elizabeth Lewis in Caroline County VA in 1703. I show her birth about 1685 and death about 1730. I would appreciate learning mor about her if anyone knows the exact dates and places of her birth, marriage, and death. Also I would like information on her parents. As for John Martin his father was Abram born 1642 in Galway County Ireland. He married Rebecca Bell (b ~ 1655) about 1674 and died 1711 in York County Virginia. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
