I am sorry but I have not been able to find my book that had the picture of Topping Castle. It is a beautiful place, and as I remember the picture there was a lot of grass before you saw the Castle as they called it. When I told you I had a picture in a book I thought I knew right where it was, but I evidently moved it. My years seem to be catching up with me. Middlebrook, born abt 1830. William married Martha AE Grubbs. Their children were Cornelius, Leonidus, Sicilian, Hilton and Catherine. Hilton's first wife was a Jones, I believe. Together they had 3 sons - John, William and Charlie. Have you run across anything to confirm this? I would like to know the wife's first name. Have more information, if you need it, on Middlebrooks. The Smith-Harrrison-Battaile info is a a chapter out of the book. A google search on it will turn up lots of hits. Here's a table of contents: http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=BookList&dbid=15175&offerid=0:7858:0 It looks like if you belong to Ancestry, you could read it online??? Here's a transcription of part of the book, but doesn't include this part: http://www.torrens.org.uk/Genealogy/Torrens/books/RMT/rmtindex.html You could also check out the Harrison Repository: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~harrisonrep/harintro.htm to see how much is there on your line. The book states Battaile was the eldest son, lived in Orange County, Va., until 1761 when he moved to Amherst County where he died in 1775. His will can be found in the Amherst County Records, Will Book No. 1. His wife was Frances, surname unknown. Children are listed as: Reuben Harrsion John Harrison, married Sarah Ellis (see Ellis chapter) Richard Harrison Elizabeth (or Betty) Harrison, married a Mr. Tinsley James Harrison William Harrison Frances (or Frankey) Harrison I don't have the entire book so I can't check the Ellis chapter to see what it contains. I am trying to find out where the book can be found. Another thing, according to this book the Battaile (Battle) Harrison killed at Fort Washington during the Revolution was the son of Lawrence Harrison and nephew to your Battaile Harrison. Hope this information helps. If correct, you would be a 7th cousin to my mother-in-law and my wife would be your 7th cousin, once removed. Jeff I have emailed you before. The map I have is a Spottsylvania Co. VA map 1895 from VA atlas main page. My cousin found this map and sent it to me when he worked in Washington or MD he would do research in his spare time. The original question was who was our Chapmans and Samuel Chapman b. abt 1700 ancestors are? We now know that we are related through DNA testing. So the question is How?! So that has led us to the discussion and bringing up old research that I and others have found. Read through the prior mailings if you have not already. Not sure Which Caroline Co. VA History this page is from. There was no author. However, JH seems to have done some research on the Chapmans in the area. I have run onto his name in other research.
