2. Ardyth Long
3. Hi Carol and all! I've been lurking on this list for a while; I joined, then it was summer and my daughter's getting married and I haven't been able to devote much time to genealogy. I'm really interested in the Carneal/Carnal lines you have. My great-great grandparents were Archibald & Catherine (HALL) CARNAL. Their son Benjamin married Mable GOODE. Both Benjamin CARNAL and Mable GOODE were born in Iowa. However, family history says the family was originally from Caroline County, Virginia and that their name was originally CARNEAL and they were from Ireland. Also, Benjamin was the ninth child of Archibald and Catherine - so there have to be others out there. I also know that some relative was a mayor of Tama City, IA at one time. There is also a book that I'm wondering if anyone has - or knows where I can purchase a copy: "The Carneal family of Virginia and Kentucky: the Carneal/Carnal/Carnall/Carnell family hisorty primarily of Josiah Carneal, his progenitors and allied lines," written by Mary Helen Carneal Christian. The listing I found said it was published in Paduch, KY, presumably a private publication. But, I would love to have a copy of it - and I know of a cousin and uncle that would like one too. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Ardyth Long Send2carol@aol.com wrote: > Hi! I am Carol May Send2carol@aol.com > I have really appreciated the transcripts of the chats. 1. Re: Mason Family of Caroline County
2. Larry, In the early part of the 1800's there were a number of court suits between members of the Mason family of Caroline County. The court papers are at the Library of Virginia in Richmond. The best place to read adstracts of these cases is in William Lindsay Hopkins' Caroline County Court Records and Marriages, 1787-1810. You can find this book in most major genealogical/historical society libraries or you can order it from Virginia Genealogy - Iberian Publishing Co. If you do a lot of work in Caroline County this is a MUST have book. This book answers most of your questions in your post and clarifies a couple of other points that you made. Good luck, Norman Peters
