    1. research help
    2. Hi Michael, A trip to spend lots of time at the courthouse in Bowling Green will be well worth it....much better than asking the clerk to look it up for you! They've got many books of original records that you will keep you many hours of hunting pleasure. If you check on the Caroline webpage, I've got a link called "Microfilm of Caroline Co."....go there and find the film numbers for Caroline and then ask your local library to order them for you. They're Free!! And they contain a goldmine of info. If you're able to purchase some books, there's a good listing of what's available on the webpage. Hope this helps. Good luck to you, peg price

First try the Library of Virginia in Richmond - second the DAR Library in Washington DC [The DAR Library is open on all Sunday afternoons unless the following Monday is a holiday.] >Are there documents or microfilms that can be accessed at other locations? Microfilm can be ordered from the Library of Virginia.

    1. Mabile family in Caroline County
    2. Michael Mabile
    3. I am looking for advice on the best places to start researching ancestors who lived in Caroline County in the mid-nineteenth century. My great-great-grandparents, John Mabile, an immigrant from France, and his wife Mary, an immigrant from Ireland, together with their sons John and Roland, appear in the 1850 Caroline County census. Mary and the two sons are in the 1860 Caroline County census. What are the best basic resources on Caroline County that I can use for research without traveling there? I do live within driving distance, but do not know when I will be able to take time off to go there. Can I get help from the county clerk's office, and are the records for 1850-1860 still preserved? Is the local library a good source? Is there a Caroline County genealogical society? Are there documents or microfilms that can be accessed at other locations? I would appreciate any help.

    1. Pollard's & Smith's of Caroline County
    2. pollard
    3. Good Day: Seeking genealogical and historical information on the Pollard's of Shelby County, Kentucky circa 1800-1855. I am especially interested in the family of George Tompkins Pollard and connecting surnames which may be "Irish" or "Scottish" or "French" in origin. George Tompkins Pollard and his brother (-s) were some of the oldest settler's living in Old Walla Walla County (Walla Walla, Washington). And, the Pollard surname was clearly identified with the "Inland Empire" in several old historical publications. According to my data, George was born in Linn County, Missouri, on June 15, 1835. He was the son of Roger B. and Sarah C. (Smith) Pollard. Roger Pollard's father was a native of RICHMOND, VIRGINIA. And, his mother was born in Rockingham County, Virginia. Roger and Sarah Pollard were married in Shelby County, Kentucky. And, in 1820, they moved to Linn County, Missouri; where they lived for over 20 years. Later, they moved to the Platte Purchase, Missouri and settled near St. Joseph, Missouri; where they are buried. in 1851, he left home at the age of 16; and crossed the plains with an "ox team" to Amador County, California. By July of 1855, at the age of 19, George made his way "northward into Oregon Territory" to visit a brother (-s) who were already living in Old Walla Walla County. In 1855, George enlisted in the United States Army. And, he may have had four or five brothers (?) who were already enlisted or affiliated with the United States Army (Oregon Territory) during the Yakima Indian Wars: Benard/Bernard, Charles/Clarence, Sebastian (?), and William. Here, at least one was known to be associated with missionaries in the Walla Walla Valley area (The Whitman Mission). I am very interested in corresponding with anyone who may have any information that connects their Pollard's or other surnames with George and his elusive brothers in California, Washington, Virginia, etc.. Thanks in advance for any historical information or genealogical leads. Best, Dick Pollard pollard@gte.net FAX: 208/248-6395 http://home1.gte.net/pollard/ P.S., I am always interested in expanding my genealogy research for maximum gains. So, if you can suggest another list or bulletin board to post this query to e-mail me. Thanks in advance.

    1. Young Family
    2. Laurence E. Dickerson
    3. I am looking for information on the following Young family, listed on the Caroline County census of 1850: Young, Frances W. age 50 Young, Sarah W. age 22 Young, Paulina E. age 19 Young, Eliza J. age 16 Young, Joseph W. age 13 Young, Mary E. age 11 I presume that Frances was the mother, probably widowed. Sarah W. Young married my gg-grandfather, Isaac Lee Eubank, on 20 December 1852 in Caroline County. She died about 1856. They had no children. The 1850 census also lists a Margaret Ann Young, a separate entry, but on the same page as the above family. I believe she was an older sister of Sarah. Caroline County marriage records contain an entry for Ann Young and James Dyson dated 8 March 1853. Later court records and the 1860 census give James' wife's name as Margaret. Following Sarah's death, Isaac Lee Eubank married again, to James Dyson's sister, Ellen Virginia Dyson. Could the connection between Isaac and Virginia have been a mutual sister-in-law, Margaret Young Dyson? If anyone is familiar with this family and can verify or disprove any of my speculations, I would be most interested.
