Thought I'd pass on this notice that is in the current "Caroline Progress" newspaper: The Bowling Green Christmas Candlelight Tour of Homes will be held Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999. Advance tickets for all 5 house tours is $12. Call Jane Donachy at 804.633.2202 or Sharon Benser 804.633.6353 to reserve the tickets. Two of the houses being shown are "Old Mansion" and "The Sullivan House." If anyone goes and would like to let us know about the tour, that'd sure be wonderful to read! peg
Does any one know who Lucy Mills parents were and perhaps where and or when she might have been born. I have her children if any one is in need of them. I would be very happy to exchange info. thanks alyce
More problems for list: Does any one out there know of any relationship between Thomas Guy and George Tiller who lived with Thomas Guy in 1788 in Caroline CO., Va. Thomas Guy, was held chargable for two males @16+ himself and George TIller in 1788 in the Caroline Co tax records. This seems to suggest that this George is over 16 but not yet 21 and could possibly be apprenticed or indentured to aaThomas GUy but maybe they are relatives. The following tax chart- 1793 what appears to be the same GEorge TIller is found with Thomas TIller Jr still in Caroline CO. so again it appears to be not my George but who is he?? I truly will appreciate your leads. alyce hart
Again listers I needyour help: >From the Caroline Co., Va. order book 1781-1785, page 28 has it that the estate of a George Tiller was appraised by Daniel Turner, Rueben Goerge, Dickenson Oliver and John Oliver Nov 8, 1781. I assume this means he must have died sometime just before 11/08/1781.(this from page 28) >From the same order book, page 27, the last will and testament of George Tiller was proved by THomas T. Guy and Ann Tiller. Same order book, page 45, shows the inventory and appraisalof George TIller's estate. Does anyone know who this Ann TIller is? Perhaps his wife?? Does anyone know if this George TIller is really Thomas George TIller who at one time was married to Lucy Mills?? I know it canot be George TYLER born 1755 who married Judith Terrill in Caroline CO as they were still having children until 1800. And it cannot be the father of the George Tiller b ca 1785 from who I am directly descended as he was born in 1785 in Spotsylvania co. I do not know exactly who was the father of my George Tiller b 1785. It could have been George TYLER and Judith Terrell but he does not name any of his known children Judith. Any clues, pls, will be greatly appreciated Alyce M. Hart
Fellow listers: I truly need your assistance. Daniel Tiller(could have been spelled Tyler) is known to have married Rebecca Carnall in 1798 from Caroline CO Records. Does anyone have any clues as to either children or parentage of either Daniel Tiller or Rebecca Carnall. I am still attempting to sort out the Tillers of Caroline Co and now pretty much convinced those who spelled theirnames TYLER in caroline county were ikely to be Tillers. Thanks in advance ALyce

Where does one access the list of tithables and the book on Land Book Alterations by by Ruth and Sam Sparacio? Is there a library in Caroline Co. that has a good collection of the Caroline books that have been published? And does anyone know when the Caroline Genealogy/Historical group meets? Mary Jo Fickle
The ancestors I am researching in Caroline County were immigrants from France and Ireland and were, in all likelihood, of the Catholic faith. Does anyone know if there was a Catholic church in Caroline during the 1845-1865 period? If so, are there any church records? Was there a cemetery?
Hello everyone, Here's a new homepage listing Selph, Covington, Jordan and other Caroline families: http://community-1.webtv.net/BEAJAY/doc/ Peg

Most of the earlier ones have been published by Ruth and Sam Sparacio as Land Book Alterations (see: http://www.antientpress.com/). In fact, Caroline County has a better set of early tithables/landowners than other counties because the tax collectors kept careful notes when land was sold and bought, something that was not done in many other counties. Even if you are looking for someone in the 1700's you need to read the tax lists up into the 1840's/50's. There are often notes about families and children in the later lists. Also the later lists tell where the land was located and neighbors. Since land stayed in families for generations, neighbors in say 1830 may very well have been neighbors in 1780.} >-- any voters {NO} or landowners lists? {see tithables} >-- any catalogue of gravestone inscriptions that might have births prior to 1780? {NO} >-- any business documents {There are a few and all are at either the Library of Virginia or the VA Historical Society.
