I have just received some deeds relating to my g-g-grandparents' property from the Caroline County clerk's office. I wonder if anyone can tell me approximately where in the county this property was. The property is described as being bounded on the west by Stephen Oliver's land, on the south by the road leading to Bull Church, and on the east by the road leading over South River Bridge. It might be helpful to note that the 1860 census shows that they were located near Flippo's Store Post Office (although I don't know for sure that this is the same property described in the deed).
If anyone is researching the DUNN family whose earlier records would be in Essex and later in Caroline, I'd like to hear from you. I am particularly interested in Joshua Dunn. -- I believe Dunnsville is named after this family?? Linda lindaleebutt@worldnet.att.net

Hi listers and friends: I'm sending this to multiple lists for full coverage! I found out today by letter that my great aunt Helen Redd DANIEL, bn 1907, died 13th Dec 1999, had passed on. Aunt Helen was the last living child of my great-grandparents Thomas Wesley REDD and Susan Ninette HURTT. Aunt Helen was much younger than her siblings, one of which was my paternal grandfather Thomas Lester REDD. I have more information on the REDD family; feel free to email me directly at genequene@yahoo.com. You know what they say about your instinct -- I had thought that Aunt Helen might still be alive. I couldn't find any evidence that she passed on. Low and behold, I was right!! Happy Holidays to everyone! Becky Obituaries Southside Sentinel, December 16, 1999 Helen R. Just returned from a wonderful 2 weeks adventure to Caroline Co (I live in CT). Spent 7 entire days in the Court House.... I would like to offer my surnames to see if anyone can add information. My maiden name is KIDD..... they were primarily from the Lauraville area and the KIDD's FORK area. Names connected to the family are Bagby (Travis), Motley (Edwin), Davenport, Upshaw, Wright, Hundley, Puller, Broaddus(of course) just to name a few. Would be very willing to share info on my extensive research on the KIDD and associated lines. I will be back in this area in January, so if there is anyone that you know that would be willing to chat with me about old families, I would love to know about them. Have a nice holiday. Elaine Kidd O'Leary
Greetings: I need more information about this WHARTON - TALIAFERRO Connection. I have an old genealogy which states that a Nancy Taliaferro (daughter of Robert Taliaferro), was married twice, first to Thomas Livingston and had three sons: Robert, Thomas, and James LIVINGSTON. After Thomas Livingston died, Nancy Taliaferro Livingston married Valentine Long WHARTON, and their children were: Lucy, William, Sally, Benjamin, Nancy [md Robert Sanders], and Fanny Wharton [md. Peter Gatewood]. His name is sometimes given as "Long Wharton" and I believe he is the same Valentine Long Wharton who died in 1799 in Scott County, Kentucky. He may have been about 69 years old at the time. In 1796 some of Nancy's Livingston offspring gave their power of attorney to a Benjamin Wharton when they moved to Edgefield County, S.C., and a A July 6, 1796 power of attorney shows a Benjamin Wharton was the son of "V. Long Wharton." There is also a deed transaction of Robert Taliaferro and his wife Jane, of Caroline County, to Long Wharton, of County afsd, 315 acres, Sept. 21, 1772. Witnessed by James Livingston. And an October 5, 1772 conveyance witnessed by James Livingston, giving Long Wharton's wife's name as Ann (which is often the same name as Nancy). I would like more data on this family to confirm exactly who they were, and I would especially like to know about Nancy Taliaferro's father, said to be Robert Taliaferro, and who Robert Taliaferro's siblings and children were. All I know about him is that he was supposed to have a son named Samuel Taliaferro, and another daughter who married a man named BOWLER. Hello list, I will be starting to record info I received when I interview people. My question is: When writing information on paper, to use as notes later, which will last longer, pen or pencil record on paper. Mark G. Garner Researching Adams, Burruss, Garner, Twiggs and Woolfolk.
FYI fellow listers: For those of you who subscribe to Ancestry.com, , just in case you didn't know, there is a data base of some 300,000 Virginia marriages from all counties between 1740 and 1850. My surname is WHARTON so I clicked on that and found 100 Wharton marriages in all counties. It lists the bride and groom's names, marriage date and county. Here is the address but it does require membership. http://www.ancestry.com/ancestry/search/3723.htm Ancestry Library SEARCH Virginia Marriage Index, 1740-1850 Description: Throughout the 18th and well into the 19th Century, Virginia was one of the most populous states in the Union, being home to as many as 1.2 million persons at any one time. This collection of marriage records includes the names of over 300,000 men and women married in the state between 1740 and 1850. In addition to providing the names of bride and groom, researchers will find the date of marriage and county in which the ceremony was performed. For those seeking married ancestors from Virginia, this database can be a valuable source of information.
