Even if you are not an Iowa resident, please be part of the numbers to be heard about how important it is to have these available. Please send an e-mail expressing this desire to: keith_weigel@legis.state.ia.us and betty_soupkup@legis.state.ia.us Iowa needs to keep public access to these records!!! 1. DAR
    2. Folks, I need some input. According to my grandmthers obit she was a member of the DAR and my sister says she remembers that my Grandmother paid a monthy membership dues. However, the DAR registar says they don't have her listed. Now I know my grandmother's grandfather was in the Civil War. What I need help with is this. Does anyone know if there might have been other organizations in the time frame of 1892 to 1979 related to Fredericksburg or Caroline County , Va. that she may have belonged to. I also know that her husband was a member of the Knights of Phythias, Elks, and I think the KKK in Fredericksburg. Any help would be appreciated. Frank Pyle

    1. William Reily HOLLAND, b. about 1820 in Central (?) Virginia
    2. Irby N. Hollans, Jr.
    3. I am seeking names and vital dates about the parents of William Reily HOLLAND, b. about 1820, possibly in the Central Virginia area, and d. 14 September 1897 in Floyd County, Virginia. He married 27 December 1843 in Franklin County, Virginia, Mary Jane (Polly) MOORE, daughter of John MOORE and Annie AUSTIN, of Franklin County, Virginia. William and Polly produced 13 children, the first three in Franklin County, Virginia, and the last 10 in the adjacent Floyd County, Virginia. I would be interested in names, dates and spouse/family information. I have some information on all of their 13 children, and many of their descendents and would be willing to share this information with others interested in these lines. I hope to hear from you shortly. Irby Hollans =================================================== Irby N. 1. JONES, COLEMAN & Farish families 1700's
    2. Edwin Jones
    3. Hello Caroline County Researchers. I have traced a number of my ancestor lines into Va. & trying to make more connections. My gr gr grandfather was James JONES who marr. Rebecca Kay COLEMAN 1819 in Mason County, Ky. Rebecca was the dau. of Farish COLEMAN who was from Caroline Cty, Va. Farish was marr. to Elizabeth CAMP. I have found Caroline Cty. court order records for 1785-1787 which is of interest regarding these families. Robert FARISH, Stevens FARISH, Farish COLEMAN & James JONES are all mentioned on page 76 in these court records. I'm quite sure there are family connections between these families & would like to contact anyone having info regarding them or suggestions of where I might search to get data. I live to far from Va. to do research in the area. Thanks in advance for your help, Ed Jones New Palestine, In.

    2. Lynn Steward
    3. Hello- Saw your post re STEWART/BEAZLEY I am researching a slave ancestor Otway BROWN (my g-gfather) b. in Caroline Cty in 1838. . I found record on Ancestry.com of an Otway BROWN listed as (working for?) BEAZLEY & CO of Henrico cty (AIS census index 1850). - Family legend states that Otway changed our surname to STEWARD after Emancipation, but his marriage certificate (1868) lists his parents as Charles and Mahala STEWART . I thought the spelling might have been a typo by the clerk, but after reading your post I'm not sure. My questions are these: -Do your BEAZLEY's have any connection to Henrico cty? - Do your STEWART records make any mention of a slave named OTWAY, or a wife or dau for Charles named AMANDA? - Do you know what kind of bsns BEAZLEY and CO of Henrico county was? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Lynn

    1. STEWART, Cath. m. BEAZLEY, Chas., Spotsylvania Co. Va c.1830
    2. STEWART, Catharine m. BEAZLEY, Charles, Spotsylvania Co. Va c.1830 Any information extending or expanding this family would be greatly appreciated. Catharine Stewart, born Apr 19, 1800 probably in Spotsylvania Co. Va, died Aug 31,1868, Crawfordville, Taliaferro Co. Ga. She was daughter of John Stewart. b. Aug 1769, d. Oct 19, 1849. I found a sheet of stationery in a family Bible giving John Stewart and Catharine's names, birth and death dates. So far I have nothing else that ties them to one another. The Stewart Clan Magazine has John 6 Stewart (Thomas, 5, John 4) born about 1769 in Spotsylvania Co. Va, married there Aug 22, 1796 to Frances Straughan according to a D.A.R. Magazine Mar/Apr 1915 inquiry. John resided in St. George's parish and died Oct 14, 1849, aged 80 years. He left descendants. – SCM D:85. Thomas Steward, born about 1739, married Elizabeth __. He lived in Spotsylvania Co., and is said to have been a soldier in the Revolutionary war, SCM B:162. He died Apr 23, 1819, in Spotsylvania Co. Among his children were John, listed above and Robert. SCM D:77 Thomas Steward, (4th child of John 4 Steward, b about 1700, m. Rosamond __ ) married Feb. 1772, Elizabeth Hume (or Holmes), King George Co). SCM D:75 Also in SCM B:162 a Benjamin Steward born about 1764, married Dec 24, 1790 in Spotsylvania Co., Dorothy Straughan. She was daughter of Reuben Straughan and sister of Elizabeth. Charles Beazley, born about 1800, died Jan 1, 1863, Crawfordville, Taliaferro, Co. GA. One tradition is that Charles was the son of Jon Beazley, born in England, settled in Virginia and later moved to Georgia. And, he was married twice. The other predicament is that in this period Spotsylvania, Caroline, Orange and Essex Counties were crawling with Beazleys. There appear many candidate parent lines available for Charles to have called his own. Charles is listed as born in Va. by the 1850 census. Charles Beazley married Catharine Stewart about 1830, together they had the following children: >Frances Beazley, married W. A. Overton >John Stewart Beazley, b. Aug 1832 Whitehall Gold Mine, Spotsylvania Co VA, d. May 1907 Stilesboro, Bartow Co., GA. >Frederick Beazley, b. 1834, VA >Arthur Beazley, b. 1836, VA >Julia Beazley, b. 1838, VA, married Marcus Googer >Isabella Beazley, b. 1840, VA >Emma Beazley, b. 1845, VA Found from another descendant list -- Charles Beazley b. 1800 VA, d. 24 Jan 1863, Talif Ga. >Walter A. Beazley b. 1824 + Catherine Elizabeth Abbott b. Jul 9, 1820, Fredericksburg VA m. Dec 25, 1845, d. Dec 6, 1891, Greene Co. GA. >>Frances Estelle Beazley b. May 9, 1856 St. George Parish, Spotsylvania Co. VA, d. Jul 29, 1914, Atlanta Fulton, Co. GA. Very Respectfully, J. 1. Long Family of Caroline County, VA
    2. Dear Researchers: I am a subscriber to Rootsweb's Long mail list in view of the fact that my 3rd great-grandparents were Cornelius Long (b. about 1829) of Caroline County who married Delilah Sale and Mary I. Long (b. 1827) of Caroline County who married William Thomas. There was an exchange of correspondence today between Bob Armstrong, Nancy Pope and I which I thought some of you would find helpful. To put the correspondence in sequence, read the letters in reverse order from the bottom. I'm still hoping that someone somewhere knows something to help me identify the parents of Cornelius and Mary. Joann Ellis Humphries Researching in Caroline County, VA: SALE, THOMAS, LONG, HAYNES, MARTIN, CRUTCHER, TOOMBS AND MANY OTHERS. ============================================================ Subj: Re: James Long Date: 01/27/2000 8:31:58 PM Eastern Standard Time From: bob-nita@neosoft.com (Robert E. Armstrong) To: JoannEllis@aol.com Dear Joann, I've searched the book, cover to cover, and not found a Cornelius Long. The copy I have was sent to me a year or more ago. It is only a small portion of the entire Long genealogy. Only four of Ware Long's sons lines (Christopher, Daniel, Ware II, and Henry) are expanded upon. The rest require contact with the LDS in Salt Lake. Ask for microfilm of the following: [ US/CAN 929.273L85 lon ] It is mainly the line of the son, Nicholas. There is very little information available on the other children, John, Reuben, James, and the daughters, Ann (Nancy) Long and the unnamed daughter. Apparently only the first two sons, Christopher and John were born in Caroline County, VA and they are noted as "probably" born there. Daniel, Ware II, and the rest were born in Culpeper County, VA. You can share this information with anyone you like. 1. Mt. Horeb Baptist Church
    2. Harold, Mt. Horeb Church is located 12 miles southeast of Bowling Green at Lorne. It was organized in 1773 as Reed's Church. In 1840 a new brick meeting house was built on the original site. Another house was erected on a different site on an acre tract dontated to the church in 1853 by J. R. Mason. At that time the name was changed from Reed's to Mt. Horeb. The structure presently used is the 4th building for this congregation and was dedicated on 23 Dec 1890.
