    2. Becky Redd Casagrande
    3. Hi listers: Sorry for all the confusion on the link for the 1860 Northumberland Census on Rich Luht's webpage. I don't know exactly WHAT the problem is in pulling up this webpage. I can get thru -- after one or two tries -- under each of the following links: <http://www.mosquito.net/~luht/> <http://www.mosquito.net/~luht/index.html> I've received many emails saying the links don't work, so I even trying going to mosquito.net's main page and getting in that way. They do not, however, have the LUHT webpage listed on their index. So much for that. Sorry, once again -- and I wish I had an answer! I thought I had sent out the latter address above in my haste to get the word out, but that's not the case. Both of the above links work -- but NOT ALWAYS ON THE FIRST TRY! Don't you love it?! 1. Blanton Family of Caroline County
    2. Laurence E. Dickerson
    3. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who may have information on the family of John G. Blanton and Lucy (? Southworth ?). While I am not descended from this family, they did intermarry with several members of my Dyson line. The information I have is as follows: John G. Blanton, born c. 1796, married Lucy (? Southworth ?) in Caroline County. She was born c. 1804, and was probably the daughter of James Southworth and Elizabeth Jarrell. From census records, John and Lucy were both still living on 1 August 1850. He was a farmer in Caroline. They had at least eleven children: 1) Eliza Ann Blanton - b. in 1824. She married Charles T. Dyson c. 1846. He was born in 1823, a son of James Dyson and Sarah Mason. Charles and Eliza had one son, John James Dyson (31 October 1847 - 29 June 1916). Eliza died in 1892 and Charles in 1893. They are buried at Lebanon United Methodist Church in Peaks, Hanover County, Virginia. 2) Maurice Eldred Blanton - b. 21 February 1828. He married twice. The first time was on 27 January 1853 in Caroline County, to Elizabeth J. Dyson (c. 1834 - before 29 February 1856). Elizabeth died and Eldred married a second time, to Elizabeth's sister, Mary Frances Dyson (27 December 1835 - 9 January 1915) [Elizabeth and Mary were both daughters of James Dyson and Sarah Mason, and were sisters of Charles Dyson who married Eldred's sister, Eliza Ann.] Eldred and Mary had four children: (1) Willis A. Blanton, b. c. 1857, married Blanche ----; (2) James Asa Blanton, 4 December 1859 - 29 January 1896, married Georgeanna Stevens; (3) Sally L. Blanton, c. May 1860 - 1945, married Edgar W. Young; and (4) Robert Lee Blanton, b. c. December 1863, married Ida L. ----. Eldred Blanton died 31 December 1914. He and Mary are buried at a family cemetery near their home at Point Eastern, Caroline County. 3) Richard Festus Blanton - b. c. 1831. d. 29 October 1908. Served in Companies I and G of the 4th Virginia Cavalry. Enlisted 9 May 1861. 4) Mary E. Blanton - b. c. 1833 5) Harriet Emeline Blanton - b. 16 December 1835. On 22 February 1859, in Caroline County, she married Maynard Dyson (28 March 1838 - 9 March 1897). He was a son of James Dyson and Sarah Mason and a brother of Charles, Elizabeth and Mary Dyson, named above. Harriet and Maynard had five children: (1) Lucy S. Dyson, 1 January 1860 - 10 January 1947, m. ---- Fleet; (2) Charles A. Dyson, c. March 1867 - after 10 January 1947, married c. 1895 to Martha F. ----; (3) Walter W. Dyson, 17 April 1869 - 17 April 1925, married c. 1899 to Lula ----; (4) Linda Fleet Dyson, 30 May 1872 - 18 June 1951; and (5) Edmonia Blanche Dyson, 30 November 1877 - 1 January 1938, married c. 1907 to William M. Wingfield. Harriet Emeline Blanton Dyson died in Hanover County on 2 March 1922. She and Maynard are buried at Lebanon United Methodist Church in Peaks, Hanover County. 6) Augustus L. Blanton - b. c. 1837. Enlisted 19 July 1861 in Company E of the 30th Virginia Regiment. Wounded at Drewry's Bluff, 16 May 1864. Killed at Dinwiddie Court House 31 March 1865. 7) Lucy E. Blanton - b.c. 1838 8) Robert W. Blanton - b.c. 1840. Died 1902. Enlisted 15 March 1862 in Company E, 30th Virginia Reg't. Paroled at Ashland 25 April 1865. 9) Sarah Jane [Sally] Blanton - b. 1842. Died after 2 May 1910. Buried at Lebanon United Methodist Church in Peaks. 10) Lewis Franklin Blanton - b. 11 May 1844. Enlisted in the Caroline Light Artillery at Bowling Green 13 March 1862. Paroled at Ashland 27 April 1865. Died 11 January 1908. Buried at Woodland Cemetery in Ashland. 11) George Blanton - b.c. 1845. I would be very interested in hearing from any descendants of the Blantons or Dysons who may be able to fill in additional information on any of these lines. My descent is through Ellen Virginia Dyson, a sister of Charles, Elizabeth, Mary and Maynard, who all married into the Blantons. Larry Dickerson

    1. 1860 Northumberland Census/Rich Luht's Webpage
    2. Becky Redd Casagrande
    3. Good Morning Everyone! I hope each of you are well! I found a TREAT this morning and wanted to get the word out. Rich Luht's family has put his REDD (and affiliated lines) webpage(s) back online! I tried the link -- just on a whim and was THRILLED when everything was up and running! They entered a notation in red that due to his untimely death, the page will not be updated in the near future. Otherwise, everything is there -- including the 1860 Northumberland Co, VA Census. I've wanted to write to Rich's family and ask permission to have the 1860 North'd Census put online -- but wanted to protect their privacy after his untimely death. Only a few people online have a downloaded copy of this census (I'm one) -- I would eventually like to see the census on US Gen Web (with Rich'sfamily's approval, of course) -- with a tribute to Rich for his work. Have a GREAT week! Best Regards Becky HERE'S THE WEBPAGE ADDRESS: <http://www.mosquito.net/~luht/index.html> ===== BECKY REDD CASAGRANDE (genequene@yahoo.com) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The information below was sent to me years ago regarding Vaughans in Caroline Co. I've not been to Caroline Co to deatil these items more. There seems to be a connection between Vaughans and Gants/Gaunts and between Vaughans/Riddles--the Thomas Riddle mentioned may be the father of my Guinetta Riddle who married William Vaughan; William was the son of a John Vaughan; William moved to Culpeper around 1770 where my g-g-g-grandfather George Washington Vaughan was born in 1772. I have a dream that somebody will stumble across an old letter up in the attic or discover some documentation that will sort all of these items out. Until then--all we can do is speculate, keep searching. Someone may have the piece that fits. 3. Folks, If anyone out there has easy access to William L. HOPKINS "Caroline Co. Court & Marriage Records 1787-1810" [Richmond: Hopkins 1987] I would appreciate a look-up in the index to determine if there are any mentions of the TYNES / TINES family. I'm especially looking for any mention of a power of attorney granted, in 1790, to one Samuel TYNES / TINES of Kershaw or Lancaster County S.C. to deal with the estates of the deceased parents of Stephen TERRY in Caroline County. Any mention of the TYNES / TINES family is of interest but this POW seems to be a key to resolving a number of problems. My thanks for your aid in this matter. Cliff Ocheltree New Orleans LA

Va Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Caroline?read=1376 Surname: Gaunt, Vaughan, Watters, Waters ------------------------- Thanks for the great information. I believe that Sarah Vaughan's (who married Ambrose Gaunt) father is Cornelius Vaughan. Any idea how he fits into these Vaughans? Also, who are the parents of Ambrose Vaughan? And would you have any dates on these folks? I am looking for the husband of my ancestor, Mrs. Mary "Molly" Gaunt, who died in Culpeper Co. in 1827. Her Will Book is missing. But, her daughter Sarah S. "Sally" Gaunt married Elias Watters/Waters in 1799 in Culpeper Co. His name was transcribed as Walters. The lack of the early marriage records in Culpeper and Caroline Co. are really hampering the research.

However here is some unrelated information on Vaughans and Gaunts. This may be of no help whatsoever. In trying to unravel my Vaughan line, I've come across these items. In Fauquier Co Va an Ambrose Gant married a Sarah Vaughan 28 May 1787. Thomas Vaughan (1758 Caroline Co-1835 Culpeper Co Va) married an Elizabeth Gaunt, according to undocumented family information. Thomas was son of William Vaughan and Guinette Riddle of Caroline Co. The following items are from Caroline Co court records. 1765 James Gant defendant in court case with Rachael Vaughan his security; Richard Vaughan and James Gaunt defendants in debt case 1766 Richard Vaughan and Joseph Gaunt defendants in debt case Also I think there were Gaunts in Rappahannock (the new one) Co Va. Thank you so much for responding to our query! Unfortunately, I don't have any information about Philip Brooks' parents or siblings. I know that Philip Brooks and his wife Susan Fletcher were living in Caroline County in October of 1815. After 5-10 years, they moved to Prince William County, VA. Then 10 years later, they moved to Charles City County, VA. While they were living in Virginia, Susan (Fletcher) Brooks died. In 1836, Philip, his daughter, a neice and four sons moved to Kentucky and bought 100 acres in Ohio County. Philip eventually returned to Prince William County, VA, where he died in 1846. (All of this info I recently acquired from a Daviess County KY local history book). One of Philip's children, George Brooks, had the following children: Edwin, Estelle, and Aretus and Demetrus (twins). Hopefully this helps some. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
