I am seeking information on the family of James B. Eubank of Caroline County, Virginia. He was born c. 1824, a son of James Eubank and Lucy Butler. On February 10, 1851, he married Elizabeth [Lizzie] Atkinson. Lizzie was born c. 1834 and was probably a daughter of Charles Atkinson, Jr. and Mary Young. James was a farmer in Caroline County in 1850 and 1860. He and Lizzie had at least nine children, named below. James died of typhoid in Caroline County on August 20, 1862. At some point following his death, probably after the end of the Civil War, Lizzie and at least four of her daughters moved to Dallas County, Alabama. They were living there in 1876, but by 1880 Lizzie and three daughters were in Sumter County, Florida, where Lizzie was the proprietor of a hotel. She was still living c. 1890. I do not know the date of her death. Children of James B. Eubank and Elizabeth ----: 1) Isaac W. Eubank: born c. 1853. Living in 1860. Probably died young. No further information. 2) Roberta Eubank: born c. 1854. Living in Dallas County, Alabama in 1876. Married J.P. Adams. No further information. 3) Mary A. Eubank: born c. 1855. Living in Dallas County, Alabama in 1876 and in Sumter County, Florida in 1880. Married James S. Godfrey on May 1, 1881. Still in Sumter County in 1885. No further information. 4) Lucy Eubank: born c. 1856. Living in Dallas County, Alabama in 1876 and in Sumter County, Florida in 1880. Married D.P. Godfrey in January 6, 1884. Still in Sumter County in 1885. No further information. 5) Unnamed Daughter: born July 13, 1857. Died July 21, 1857. 6) Sarah Eubank: born c. 1858. Living in Dallas County, Alabama in 1876 and in Sumter County, Florida in 1880. No further information. [Family tradition holds that she also married a Godfrey.] 7) Winfred Eubank: born c. July 1859. Died July 1860 at the age of one year, eight days. 8) Ivory L. Eubank: Named in his father's will. No further information. [Must have been born c. 1860/61.] 9) James B. Eubank: Named in his father's will. No further information. [Must have been born c. 1861/62.] I am descended from James' brother, Isaac Lee Eubank. I would be most interested in hearing from anyone who may have information on members of this family. -Larry Dickerson
I would like to find information on two Eubank females, probably sisters, who married two men named Young. I believe the Eubanks were daughters of James Eubank and Lucy Butler who were married in Caroline County, Virginia on 11 January 1819. James and Lucy had at least four children, though there may have been five. There were definitely two sons, James B. and Isaac Lee Eubank, and two daughters, thought to have been named Mollie [Mary] and Lizzie. On the 1850 census, Lucy Butler Eubank's household contains James B. Eubank and Lucy D. Eubank [probably 'Lizzie.'] Caroline County marriage records contain an entry for a wedding between Mary J. Eubank and Joseph T. Young. The bonds were secured on December 26th, 1839, and the marriage took place January 14th, 1840. Another entry in the marriage records is for Sarah E. Eubank and John Young. The bonds were secured by James B. Eubank on December 11th, 1843, and the marriage occurred on December 25th, 1843. It is possible that Sarah remarried at a later date. A May 30, 1876, deed instructs Isaac L. Eubank to pay Sarah Thompson the sum of $6.76 as her share of the settlement of an estate. I would be most interested in hearing from anyone who may have knowledge of either Mary J. or Sarah E. Eubank or their families. - Larry Dickerson

Va Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Caroline?read=1528 Surname: Terrell, Woodson, Chiles, and, more ------------------------- I am one of those that went to the dedication. I live in California. A cousin and her husband and I went. It was WONDERFUL. To be where these families lived. To see the foundation of the meeting house and the headstones of family members was really exciting. In so many of the deeds and wills they talk of Polecat Creek in Caroline County, VA We found it!!! It is a pretty place. The dedication was touching. Our families were good, decent, honest people. Their stand against slavery was rare in those days. We all got together after the dedication and had lunch and did some show and tell of our families. I am so very, very glad that I was able to be there. I believe there is a newsletter in the making to keep us up to date as to how things are proceeding. If anyone is interested let me know via my e-mail address. We must be thankful for the people that got this going to name a few: Fay Wade, Virginia Lee Hutchins Davis and Lt. Col. James W. Doyle. Without them this meeting house and cemetery would already be gone. Bless them.

Phoebe GOODLOE (b.1762) was a daughter of "Parson" Henry GOODLOE (c1730-1820) and his wife, Frances Diana (KEMP) Goodloe. She was married after 1790 to a Mr. Jones by whom she had a son, William Jones. Phoebe married Richmond Carnal in 1798. Phoebe and both husbands appear to have resided in Caroline Co., VA. Her father, Henry Goodloe, came to reside in Spotsylvania Co., VA where he died. I wish to correspond with any subscribers who are researching this family. I have information pertaining to the antecedents of Phoebe Goodloe. My interest lies in the identity of her first husband, etc. Your response is appreciated. C. Ward CMW12635@aol.com
Hi everyone. Do any of the following names ring any bells for anyone? Caroline Co., VA marriage records 1795-1853 records on page 2, a marriage bond issued 24 Feb 1803, husband Lewis Riddle, wife Elizabeth Barbee, security and witnesses Thomas Riddle, Elijah Barbee, and Bereman King. This is a one-line-per-entry register; the actual bonds are not available on microfilm, and probably lost. The same book records on page 87 the marriage of Lewis Riddle and Elizabeth Barby on 14 June 1803, performed by Henry Goodlow. Lewis and Elizabeth and Elijah appear in Bourbon County, KY in 1806. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Lisa
