It lead in the past to "Woodpecker" the home which was built by Samuel Hawes in abt 1750. The story is that it was built by Samuel Hawes I but it may have been built by Samuel Hawes II, the father of Lt. Col. Samuel Hawes of the Revolutionary War. I believe the home still stands but that it has had additional rooms added.

OK folks, I am back from the Hearthstone Book Shop and I did some damage to my wallet. LOL!! I bought a book called "Cemeteries of Caroline County, Virginia Volume 3-Private Cemeteries by Herbert Ridgeway Collins. I bought [on order] 2 CDs of the 1900 Census, one was for Fauquier County and listed on it with Fauquier is Floyd and Fluvanna Counties, the second one was the 1900 Census of Caroline County and listed on it with Caroline Co. is Chesterfield, Cumberland and Craig County. So you see it just doesn't have the one county on the CD. By the way someone mentioned the book Genealogical Abstracts from 18th-Century Virginia Newspapers by Robert K. Headley, Jr. I have that book, it sells for $35. I also have a Veterans' Schedule CD U.S. Selected States, 1890, it contains an index of approx. 385,000 war veterans and veterans' widows who were enumerated on the special veterans' schedule of the 1890 U.S. census. Although the 1890 veterans' schedule was meant only to record information about Union soldiers and their widows, it also lists information about some Confederate soldiers, as well as soldiers who served in other wars, such as the War of 1812 and the Mexican-American War. It gives the Microfilm page number, state, county, and locality of residence at the time of the enumeration. The following is from Hearthstone Book Store: Now available from Heritage Quest through Hearthstone BookShop Digital Microfilm CDs of U.S. Census Records, 1790-1920 Are you tired of trying to read federal census records on microfilm> Now you can obtain complete images of the microfilms on compact disk so that you can access the records at your own convenience on your computer. All census records released to date by the National Archives are available on CD, from 1790 to 1920. Each CD contains enhanced images of one roll of microfilm, enabling you to identify which CD you want by the roll number of the microfilm. By using these CDs, you can: Scroll or navigate through the film Enlarge the image up to 800% Save the image Print the image All CDs are produced on demand; we don't stock them in our store. It takes about three weeks to obtain them. To order, you don't have to know the roll number of the microfilm in question. We maintain a master catalog of microfilms for you to consult to determine the correct roll number. Keep in mind that the U.S. Census is organized by county and city, so you will need to know which census year and which county or city you want to order. Depending on the population of the area, you may have to order more than one CD to secure a complete census record for that time and place. This is especially true for urban areas. Each CD costs $19.95 This offer applies only to microfilms of the Census, not to microfilms of the Soundex or other census indexes. Please also note: these CDs are not searchable. Sparta is southeast of Bowling Green-- On a "gazeteer" type map like the ones fishermen buy, follow Highway 30l south from Bowling green until you see a road marked 721--that winds SE and then E to Sparta. On the GNIS list (http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisprod) it is designated as a populated place, latitude375930N and longitude 0771350W. I am not sure about the White Plains part, but on that same GNIS list, Whites (historical) is listed as a populated place at latitude 380216N and longitude 0771105W.
