Va Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Caroline/1804 Surname: Stevens, Purks, Merriman, Merryman ------------------------- I am descended from Hilbert Stevens of Caroline County, VA. But the records I have show his name as Hilbert Jefferson Stevens, and his birthplace as Edinburg, Scotland in 1822. He had a son, born in the later 1800's named Hilbert Temple Stevens. I also have Hilbert Jefferson's wife listed as Elizabeth Purks, daughter of Sam or John (not sure) Purks and Judy Merriman. But that could have been a typo and it could have been Merryman. I am in email contact with Hilbert Temple's grandson. I'd love to get this straight for my charts too!!

    3. Good evening everyone: To anyone who subscribes (or not) to the Caroline Progress newspaper- an FYI In August they published their second "Hundred Years in Pictures" - this time featuring all the Caroline County Churches. Each Church was mentioned and a picture displayed. There were 20 pages and I found it to be interesting and informative. I subscribe to the newspaper but this special tabloid was not sent with the regular subscription. I had to request it. I don't know if there are any left but it's worth a try ... probably for a dollar or so Postage and Handling.. Linda The address is: The Caroline Progress P.O. It lies south of Portabago Bay just inside the Caroline County border within the boundaries of the A.P. Hill Army Reservation on a ridge between the headwaters of Portabago Creek and Portage Run. It is about a half mile from another mysterious location called "Damel Corner". Does anybody know the history of either of these locations and names?

    1. Collawn/Bradley family in Caroline Co
    2. Just learned of a new family line that married with my KIDD line of Caroline Co. Hopefully I can now find some living descendants of these two families. Any information regarding these families, especially marriage dates, would be greatly appreciated. Frances Kidd married Thornton H Bradley they had 4 children: Wm H, Park, Lucy A, and Virginia E. Thanks to Herbert Ridgeway Collins cemetery books, I learned of Thornton's birth and death dates. I think Frances might have died before 1850. Virginia E married Wm Newton Collawn. Again thanks to the cemetery book, I learned that this couple had at least two children: Robert Aubrey and Lelia Pearl. Thanking you in advice for any assistance. Elaine Kidd O'Leary in CT

    3. Posted on: Caroline Co. Va Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Caroline/1793 Surname: Murphy, Murphey, Herndon, Terrell ------------------------- Looking for information on the Murpheys that lived in Caroline Co. in the early to mid 1700's. Father was Gabriel Sr. who fought in the Rev. War; son Gabriel Jr. and possibly a William, James, John, Elizabeth, Rachel and Nancy. Gabriel Jr. married Clarey Herndon, daughter of David Herndon and Nancy Pierce. I think it is possible that William, James and John married Terrell girls--Patsy, Lucy and Sarah--and migrated to Caswell, NC. ONLY a theory that I am checking out... But they do all appear on an LDS record together.
