    1. [VACAROLI] Fredericksburg Heritage Center Address and web site
    2. Julie This is the location where they moved the records. In my last email I gave the address and they do have a web site, I will find that and post it. Now I took Route 3 into Fredericksburg, turned right on Summit street that turns into Center street within a few blocks. It is in an industrial area. The parking lot had vans with the Scott's green logo, on the right side and a soccer field on the left. The Rappahannock Library in Fredericksburg is another treasure trove. I spent almost every night there. Monday thru Thursday they are open until 9:00 p.m. The only thing I was disappointed with was that the Fredericksburg Court House that house the circuit Chancery cases and covered Caroline County, would not allow us to see or use the records (Chancery) as Barry McGhee was on Vacation and no one but him can give access. They were behind a locked door. Coming all the way from California and there was several cases I wanted to view and copy. I had sent a request once before but was told it would be $236.00 to copy the case I wanted to view as it was large. I was very disappointed as these are public records and they should be available to view, even if they were just copies of the original case. Here is the web site for the Heritage Center _www.crhcarchives.org/_ (http://www.crhcarchives.org/) Tiffany

    2. Lois Long Carey
    3. Julie, My Aunt Ellen Ruth Carneal was a Graduate of Mary Washington. She lived in that area and taught first grade for many years. She also played the organ at Carmel Baptist Church there. She was the daughter of Sarah Long and Ernest Carneal. She never married, nor did her brother, Harry Carneal. Her mother was a sister to my father William Zachary Long born in Caroline County in 1883. If you should run across anyone connected to the above families in Caroline County, would appreciate hearing from you. Ruth has a nephew still living there. His name is Ernest Carneal, Son of Ashton Carneal. Good luck to your daughter with her college experience. I am sure she will love it. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Julie Lofurno" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, August 29, 2005 9:45 AM Subject: Re: [VACAROLI] Fredericksburg Heritage Center > My husband and I have been to the Caroline County C.H. twice in the last couple of years to do a major amount of research in the old deed books, etc. Imagine my surprise when I learned several months ago that all of Caroline's old records had been moved to Fredericksburg......I was told the name of the destination, but did not write it down. 1. Heritage Center information
    2. The Central Rappahannock Heritage Center 300 Central Road in Fredericksburg, VA Mailing address P.O. Box 8533, Fredericksburg, VA 22404 Hours 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and by appointment 540-373-3704 A lot of the records from the Caroline County Court House are now kept there. Counties covered Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, Stafford and the City of Fredericksburg. I called the court house to obtain a deed record and was directed to the Heritage Center. In one room there are records in acid free boxes and folders, sorted by name for Spotsylvania, with original estate and other records. There is also a room with more Caroline County records besides what is on the shelf in the main room. There are boxes with pictures and newspapers and everything. I went both days during the week and still only was able to get through a small part of the collection. It is worth a visit. Tiffany

    3. I use the Family Search website www.familysearch.org to see what records are available for a certain area and time period and then make my to do list from that. You might want to do most of the leg work before you get there. Also when searching for African Americans, don't forget that deed indexes will mention the owner and purchaser, not the slave, so it helps if you know who owned your relatives as well. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Taylor Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/IBC.2ACI/2505 Message Board Post: Am looking for info re George D Taylor. I see from the will of John taylor that he had three sons - George, John and William. My George was born in 1808 and apeared in Pittsylvania Co. where He married Martha Harrison and then Michell Farthing both from prominent families. George was illiterate we think. Does anyone know what happened to John's children especially George?
