Woodend, the family homestead in Stafford County,Virginia, has been located. Woodend became the Greenbanks farm, and now, unfortunately, is owned by a development company and is about to become a part of a golf course/ super mall . I have no reason to believe that the Reveley burying ground is not still there. Thomas and Elizabeth, William, and our Revolutionary War soldier Francis are buried there, as well as others. There is a deed referring to the "will of Wm. Revely" and it mentions the land in both Stafford and Spotsylvania, and that "Elizabeth Reveley having become of full legal age and married with Montague Duerson of Spotsylvania" and it also says " excepting the burying ground near the house comprising less than one quarter of an acre and which is reserved to the family of aforesaid William Reveley and Elizabeth Hudson and their heirs forever. " I can only assume someone at the development company didn't do their homework. I feel a very strong responsibility to protect that little cemetery, but I'm not unrealistic.....I'll settle for relocating it. This is not an uncommon request. I am in the process of battling the developer. I decided to tell all my email friends and potential relatives, and enlist your support. TIA, Sarah Reveley San Antonio, Texas
It's Despicable! Sorry I can't be of much help from where I am. Notify County Historical & Genealogical Society, DAR, SAR, Chamber of Commerce, etc. and try to get them to help. Best of Luck!
