Hello Everyone, I'm new to the List and have ancestors, who were in Campbell Co. VA in 1780's. The following is the Will of Robert Simpson (my 3rd great grandfather) Robert gives the plantation where he lives to his wife and daughters (not named) for their natural lives and after wife's death to be equally divided between all my children (not named). I give and bequeath my young mare to my youngest son, Robert Simpson (my 2nd great grandfather). It is my desire that my other mare and tools remain on my plantation for the support of my family with my stock of cattle of every kind except one cow which I give to my youngest son, Robert Simpson, when he arrives at the age of maturity. Executors: James Dixon and William Dunwoody Witnesses: John Willson Owen Franklin James Dunwoody Now, at the probate, proved in court by the oaths of John Willson and Owen Franklin, two of the witnesses. The will was ordered to be recorded and on the motion of Sarah Simpson, widow and re-elect of the said decedent who made oath thereto certificate is granted her for obtaining Letters of Administration on said decedent's estate and the will annexed giving security upon she and James Fitzpatrick, James Campbell and William Simpson, her securities. They entered into a bond of 200 pounds for the said administrix. James Dixon and William Dunwoody the executors refused to take upon themselves the burden of the execution thereof. Test: Robert Alexander, Clerk of Court of Campbell. Robert made his will June 11, 1781 in Bedford Co.,Va and when he died, he was living in Campbell Co. on the same land. which was 100 acres L-50; on Naked Creek, bounded by Dixon's line. There is among other questions, why Sarah purchased this land when Robert left it to her in his will? It seems she wanted the plantation intact and to herself to raise her children on. According to VA law, she was only entitled to 1/3, so there must have been grown children, who would have benefited as well. Sarah, I think was a second wife for Robert, as he has a son, William, who was born in 1757 or 8 at Indian Camp on the Catawba. As you can see, there are many interesting people in this will. I have tried to research each one of them to find more about Robert. I didn't find Robert, but did find that most of these men were from PA from Cumberland or the Conocoheague. Some of them, I suspect went to N.C., but I haven't had much success in that area. Would appreciate any and all information and thoughts that you might have.on this family. Sincerely, Bonnie Simpson Valko [email protected]
