<PRE>I have a copy of the A.E. Howard book containing the letters of John L. Holt. The book is titled: I Wrote You Word. That was an expression that John L. Holt uses in several of the letters when he is asking his wife Ellen to recall something from a previous letter. Even if this family is not yours the book gives you a good first hand account of what it was like in the Confederate Army up until Gettysburg. John L. Holt was killed at Gettysburg and the last letter in the book is written only days before the battle. I was really surprised at how open the letters are about where they are camped, where they were marching to, etc. I am sure in later wars such letters would have been heavily censured. John L. Holt is my 2nd cousin and was closely connected to my Clark family of Charlotte County.
