I am trying to find the burial location of Francis William Scott. I would VERY much appreciate some look-up help in Campbell and Halifax Counties. He was married to Mary Clementine Payne on December 24, 1837. They had the following children: Alice F. born about 1842 m. Nicholas Owings; Joseph W. Scott born about 1843 in Campbell Co., VA; Ben H. Scott born about 1853 in Campbell Co., VA; and Mary Ella Scott born 4/13/1856 in Whitehall, Campbell Co., VA m. John T. Moore, Jr. Francis W. Scott last appears in the Campbell County, VA, US Census in 1860. His wife, Mary, and daughter, Mary Ella Scott, are found in the Allegany, Maryland, US Census in 1870. (Living next door to Mary and Francis' oldest daughter and her husband....Nicholas and Alice Owings. Therefore, I would assume that Francis W. Scott died sometime during the 1860's. Mary Clementine Payne is buried in Frederick, Frederick, MD in a plot with Nicholas and Alice Owings and Lulie Moore (first daughter of Mary Ella Scott and John T. Moore, Jr., having died at the age of 10 of diphtheria). Another note that may help......I have found Francis W. Scott in the 1840 U.S. Census • Virginia • Halifax • North District.
