    1. Re: [VACAMPBE-L] Marriage of Dakin/Deacon & Hinshaw
    2. William Hunt
    3. The Bedford Co. home page gives a link to Hinshaw's abstracts and shows a minister's return for the marriage of: Granvil Arther and Frances Deacon Mar. 22, 1842....married by John Ayres. No Bond information is shown. The marriage bonds and minister's returns for Bedford and Campbell in Hinshaw's Encyclopedia aren't Quaker records. In other words the existing bonds weren't created by Quakers, but by the County Clerks. When Ministers reported the weddings they had performed, those reports were saved in the file by the County Clerks. Hinshaw found and added minister's returns to his abstracts when he found them. If Quaker couples wanted to get married using the common civil process there wasn't any law preventing them. But they did risk being dismissed from their Monthly Meeting. Hinshaw has hundreds of entries for members being dismissed for a variety of reasons. Sometimes they were re-instated. Bill Hunt ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marilyn J.
