In the 1870 census he is listed in Lynchburg, Campbell County. In the 1880 census he is listed in Madison, Amherst County. In the 1880’s he purchased a home in Bedford County and lived there until his death. While living in Bedford County the family most likely was associated with the Montvale Presbyterian Church.
