This is a little confusing because there were two Alonzo/Alonza & Emma Dudleys in Campbell Co. In 1880 I found an Emma Burnett, age 4 living with William, age 64 and Louisa, age 64 and siblings. I assume this is your Emma. In 1900 I am still searching for Emma. In 1900 I found an Alonza Dudley, age 13 b. May 1887, living with Mike and Julia Bell. He was listed as brother in law. In 1910 I found in Campbell Co. Seneca Dist. Alonzo, age 23, married once, married this time 1 yrs. farmer, Emma, age 24, married twice this time 1 year 6 children 6 living. (Age does not match 1876 birth year.) Nellie, age 10 Hawthorne, daughter, age 7 william G. son, age 5 James age 2. (I'm not sure if this is correct Emma Burnett) 1920: Seneca Twp. Campbell Co. Alonza, age 34 Emma S. wife, age (looks like) 20 Thomas W. son,, age 15 James son, age 12 Loyd son, age 10 Ruth R. daughter age (looks like) 14. 1930: Campbell Co. Seneca Twp. A.L. Dudley, age 48, married at 22 Emma S. age 56 married at (looks like) 20 Lloid, son age 18 Ruth (cannot read age) Robert age 9 Found a WW1 Card on an Alonza Lee Dudley b. November 27, 1885. Registered at age 32. Residence was Gladys, VA. Farmer. Wife Emma Snow Dudley (middle initial matches 1920 & 1930 census I found on this Alonza.) Disability was "crippled in back". Med. Hgt. Med Bld. Gray Eyes and Black Hair. Found a WW2 Card on Alonza Dudley (1942) Age 56 b. Dec. 5, 1886 in Campbell Co. Lived in Altavista, VA. Could not write. Had to sign name with an "X". Person to contact: James Dudley. Found SSDI for an Emma Dudley: Born 14 Dec 1876 d. Mar. 1971. Last Residence was Roanoke, VA. Not sure if this is correct Emma. Could it be that Emma was married to a "Snow" before Dudley and this IS the correct family????
I have a John Greenberry Burnett(e) born in 1810. He claimed he was born in Sullivan County, TN (in a letter he wrote when he was old) and in 1880 census, said his parents came from Virginia. To be honest, I'm not certain he was born in Sullivan as I find no Burnett(e)s there prior to 1850. According to one of his son's Civil War pensions, the family lived in Overton County, TN briefly. Family legend is that he was an only child and his father was killed on hunting trip (or disappeared) when John was very young. I've thought/suspected he had ties to Campbell and wonder if there is anyone there that might have an idea about this. Any other Burnett families with ties to Sullivan or Overton Counties in TN or to the name Greenberry (family legend is that was his father's name).
