From "VIRGINIA WILLS BEFORE 1799" BY Wm. M. Clemons (1924) Copied from Courthouse Records of Amherst, Bedford, Campbell, Loudon, Prince William & Rockbridge Counties, VA. DOUGLASS, ROBERT Campbell Co., VA. Will filed September 4, 1794 s. James Douglass s. Joshua Douglass d. Nancy Douglass bro. Achilles Douglass bro. Billy Douglass bro. Robert Douglass These two copies of same will by Robert Douglass, I are different. The reason I'm questioning the second one is I know that the father of Robert Douglass, I was named John Douglass, and his mother was Mary Cummins, according to bible records. a.. I am aware that Achilles Douglass was a son of John Douglass, of Orange Co., VA, but lived in Campbell Co. VA for many years. I'm not aware if Achilles had brothers that were named Billy and Robert. This second copy of his so-called Will names Achilles, Billy and Robert as brothers to my Robert Douglass, who also had a son, Robert Douglass, as well as James, Joshua, Betty, Nancy, Mary, & Jane. The reason for my asking about this is the Bible Records told the names of Robert's parents, but gave no indication that they came to America at the same time with him. If there was a way to prove that the John Douglass of Orange Co., VA could be the father of my Robert, that would open up lots of research on my part. Another question I would like to know. In some land records sold by Robert Douglass, it called his property "Patent Land". Is there anyplace that I could find out about this "Patent Land". So far, I've never found anything in print regarding him having a Patent for land. Georgia H.
