Very briefly: Prisoners of war to 1793 .......Before 1793 the few records available relate largely to French or American prisoners in British custody. Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars 1793-1815 ......all prisoners from 1796 whatever their service or nationality, were the responsibility of the Admiralty's Sick and Hurt Board, later called the Transport Board. . Subsection 1 Of the French Wars Period ...... there is an alphabetical list of American prisoners compiled by the University of Virginia, available at the National Archives [UK].
