Does anyone have any information about Joshua W. Kelly/Kelley and his family? I am researching the Family Cemetery located in Gladys, in the community known as Hell Bend. I grew up there and everyone always referred to that piece of property as the "Old Kelly Place" or the "Kelly Family Cemetery" yet I have come to discover he and his second wife (Elizabeth C. Johnson) and several of his children are not buried there. They are buried at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery, Lynch Station. His obit states he was buried in the "family burying ground" but there is a marker with his name and dates located at the church cemetery on Rt. 626. Below is a copy of his obituary. Joshua W. Kelley, 74 years of age died Friday at his home at north Altavista. He was the youngest of six children of James Kelly and Mrs. Nancy Kelley of Pittsylvania having been born November 13, 1853. Mr. Kelley is survived by his widow Mrs. Elizabeth C. Kelley and the following sons and daughters: R M Kelley of Suffolk; S W Kelley of Lynchburg; W J and M C Kelley of Altavista; J T Kelley of Savannah, GA, Mrs. Ida Arthur of Altavista, Mrs Monroe Clay of Level Run; Mrs. Luther Bell of Roanoke; Mrs. J H Arthur of Washington; Misses Elsie and Janney Kelley of Altavista and Wesley Kelley of Altavista. There are 54 grandchildren and four great grandchildren in the family. Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the family buring ground by Rev. Mr. Stanley of Dry Folk. Internment took place at the family burying ground. Pallbearers were Monroe Clay, Willard West, J B Burks, J T Hall, Willie Bell and G W Thurman. Granddaughters of Mr. Kelley were flower bearers. Mr. Kelley was a member of the Baptist Church. The Lynchburg News, Tuesday Morning, June 5, 1928 Thanks!
