Henry G Gaines and Martha Coleman who married in 1846 and lived in Campbell Co VA...had four children that I know about. Can anyone tell me who his parents were? I've heard rumors that he may be from the Daniel Gaines/Mary Gilbert line? Henry's son Thomas married a Susan ____? Any info on spouses for Van (Sylvanus), Louisa and Benjamin Gaines, children of Martha and Henry, appreciated. Thanks for any and all replies. Just a shot in the dark. There was a Henry Gaines, s/o Richard Gaines (b 1752 Albemarle Co VA) and Ann Garth. That Henry (b. abt 1782) married Elizabeth Kirby in 1802 in Albemarle Co VA. I don't have their children, but you might want to ask about the children of that Henry Gaines, often called Harry, given the middle initial of G, perhaps for Garth. I know that Henry (m. Ann Garth) had a daughter with the middle name of Garth. This is not my family, directly. I have some knowledge of them only due to Richard's father, Heirom/Hiram Gaines m Margaret French Taliaferro. That couple had children named Richard, Humphrey, Francis, Hiram, William S, Ann Pittman, Henry and Martha. The parents ended up in GA, but many of the children remained in VA. I come from Margaret F Taliaferro's father and his first wife. But part of Albemarle seems to have fallen into Bedford at one point, though Bedford was created mostly from Lunenburg, In 1752, when the county was created, I had ancestors living in what (in 1782) became Campbell Co, but in 1751 had been Albemarle, and in 1752, became (or they moved 100') Bedford Co VA. One, in particular, was Charles Lynch who grandson went on to found what is present day Lynchburg. Charles owned & settled land in what became Bedford in 1752 and Campbell in 1782, but his will was filed in Albemarle, probably due to the lack of a courthouse in a newly created county or his land in Bedford was closer to the courthouse in Charlottesville, Albemarle Co. Thus, there's the outside possibility, that Henry Gaines, s/o Richard of Albemarle, had a son, Henry G, who's land fell into Campbell, though a series of minor county revisions or minor moves by the son or grandson. Just a thought. I have no other info on this Henry m Elizabeth Kirby, nor any children listed for him. But, figured it might give you somewhere to look.
