    1. RE: [VACAMPBELL] Stone/Catron
    2. Karen Wood
    3. There was a William Stone who died in Campbell Co in 1799 of close to it. His wife was Martha Worsham, which may account for the Martha W. Stone in the 1850 census. William d. 1799 had a son, William, but I haven't chased this family out. William Stone married Martha "Patsy" Worsham abt 15 Feb 1779, when the bond was issued. The abstract of his will (sorry, but I do not have the source at hand, at the moment) reads Will BK 1 p 373 William Stone 14 Mar 1799 / 8 apr 1799 wife of Patsy Stone land for her lifetime. My five children, viz Susanna Stone, Elizabeth Stone, John Stone, William Stone and Christopher Stone, Exors wife, Hudson Blankenship, James Johnson, Wit Samuel Johnson, Archer Blankenship, Edith Blankenship Will BK 2 Campbell Co p 35 inventory of Estate of William Stone Dec'd 13 Jul 1801 p 52 Will Bk 2 Account of Patsy Stone against the Esate of William Stone dec'd mentions doctors fees for our daughter, Betsey Stone and supporting 5 children for 2 years Will BK 2 p 149 Account of the Estate of William Stone dec'd with Hudson Blankenship executor shows "Polly Stone for supporting children" 11 Jun 1804 p 328 Account of Estate of William Stone Dec'd with Hudson Blankenship; This information came from Dorothy Tuttle in the 1990's while we were gathering information on various Worsham families; William Stone and Martha Stone his wife of Campbell Co VA sold to Daniel Worsham of Amelia 30 acres of land in two lots or parcels forL33 on 25 oct 1783. The land is located on the east Side of Wolf Branch being Martha Stone's part of land which her father Drury Worsham lived on whe he departed this life. Wit William Worsham Edmund Booker Jr & William Holloway Rec. 23 Oct 1783 after Martha wife of William Stone relinquished her dower right. I don't know the relationship between Hudson Blankenship and William Stone, or why Hudson was the executor of William Stone's will. Hudson Blankenship was my GGGGgrandfather. Basically, The William Stone in 1850 may be the son of the William Stone listed above. If he was a neighbor of Hudson Blankenship's, they he was living near what was Winfall, Campbell Co VA, often referred to the Otter Station census tract, and sometimes falling River. Winfall was a train stop at one time, with a school, Church, and a store. Some buildings, including the train station still stand, but most are not in use at this point. This William Stone had to be close to Hudson Blankenship's land. That's is son, Archer (Archibald) and Hudson's wife, Edith, who were witnesses. There were other Stone families in both Campbell and Pittsylvania Co, but the use of Martha W in the 1850 census caught my attention. Can't help you much in proving one to another, but it's a place to look. If you can't find anything else, chase the land. Oh, there was a William Stone m Elizabeth Calloway abt 1806. Bond reads Nov 15 1806 William and Elisabeth Calloway, dt Caleb, David Calloway Surety. Could be the son of the William Stone above or any of the others. Just a thought. I think, given the estate went on an one, for the William d. 1799, the children were fairly young, and probably not marrying in 1806/1807, but... Some say he MAY have gone back to Ireland, but no one knows exactly where he went or what happened to him. Would love to know if he remarried, had other children, or if he indeed died an unknown.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: MARSHALL Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HBC.2ACI/1202 Message Board Post: Lacy Douglas Marshall registered for the World War 1 draft, in Appomattox County, Virginia, residence listed as Brookneal, Campbell County, Virginia. His age was given as 27 years old, and birthdate listed as 17 April 1890. I believe he was actually born in 1881. His employer was L.E. Smith. He was married. On the 1930 Census for Campbell County, Virginia, was a Lacy MARSHALL listed age 49, married to Josephine for 16 years. Two children: Lacy Eugene age 10 and Julian A. (Winfred) age 7. This is my granddaughter's family for sure. I have been unable to connect Lacy to a father. I believe he is descended from John Wilkins, MARSHALL III, born 20 November 1784 Little Cub Creek, Charlotte County, Virginia and Mary Hancock born 17 October 1798 Red House, Charlotte County, Virginia, but I can't prove that. On the 1910 Census for Southside, Appomattox County, Virginia, Lacy was living with Charles H. Marshall Head of Household, age 22. Below is the listing the of residents in the household. Icy age 61 Aunt R___ age 37 Aunt Nathan D. age 52 Uncle Lacy D. age 20 Brother Joseph H. age 18 Cousin Nita K. age 12 Cousin Next residence: Head of Household William A. (Atkins) Marshall age 60, born 14 June 1850 Ellen D. age 62. William A. and Nathan D. Marshall age 52, are reported to be sons of Henry Wilkins Marshall born 31 December 1825, and Sarah Icy T. Hancock born 29 December 1828. John Wilkins Marshall III had five sons, one of which was Henry Wilkins Marshall. One of the other sons was surely the father of Charles H. and Lacy D. Marshall. If anyone is connected to this family, and you know anything about Lacy D. Marshall, please get in touch. I have already had a great deal of help, good people have sent to me the Census copy that I have posted above. I do thank everyone who has helped me search this family. All I had was by word of mouth, from now deceased family, but no records. The family had told me of Charlotte County connections, and also that some of the family had come from Red House. Thank you, Joy
