This area of what we know as Campbell County was first settled in 1730 ( By Whites) but deeds are in Goochland County, in 1740 they are in Amelia County and Prince George, then again in Brunswick County and then to Halifax and Lunenburg County. Then to what I outlined for you. That is why it is so important to know who your neighbors are in 1820 tell 1865 as this is YOUR FAMILY CLAN. These families were CLAN orintated tell after the War between the States. They moved as a Family Clan from Place to Place. The neighbors in this time era is a cousin from one to three generations off your main lines. The neighbor is most likely a Brother or Sister to your Grandmother or Grandfather. Has any one in your Research of the Hughes family ever done a DNA Test, wow this opens up so much more information on where you lines were at and WHO they were intermarried too. Tony L. Johnson descended from Hudson Johnson-Johnston of Buffalo Creek Henry Co. Va 1776-1780, then on to What was then Washington County NC in 1782, which was part of the State of Franklin < then once Tennessee declared Statehood, it became Greene County Tn, then in a few years becomes Sullivan Co. Tn then in days it become Hawkins County Tn. where y Hudson Johnston's lands can be located today. In 1800 he moved to what was then Williamson County Tn. In 1803 he buys lands on Barton's Creek of what was then Stewart County Tn by the time he arrives the County is know Dickson County Tn, where this land is found Today. Hudson Johnson's DNA Family is on Tuckahoe Creek drainage in Henrico Co Va. in 1690 as are 7 of the other Lines that I descend from. Now several other things that researchers Miss is the DATE when a person filed a Deed. Go back and check the Date of the Deeds filled by your Hughes Family in Tn. WHO ELSE Filed Deeds on that Day, as this is who your Family traveled with to get to where they where. Now another Thing is FAMILY FOLLOWED FAMILY to the new Lands, who was the first Folks on the lands- Creeks that your Hughes family were on in Tn. They heard about this NEW LANDS from the Family that went there first. The First CHURCH on the Creek is also a precious Clue as these families also are widely associated with the First Minister that brought the folks to these regions, where did this minister come from. But ALAS here is the stickler Buffalo Creek Deeds are Fist in Halifax County Va 1775 then in 1776 they are in Lunenburg County Va. then by 1778 some are in Bedford County, Then in 1780 they are in Henry County, by 1790 the deeds fall into Henry and Campbell County Va. By 1820 the deeds for Buffalo Creek are in Campbell County. So the County lines changed numerous times on the lands that were and are on Buffalo Creek. So if you are Looking for information on he Hughes Families of Campbell County you are going to have to research in each one of these Counties. My Interest is in one William Johnson who in 1780 Henry County one Hudson Johnson lived with him. Per 1782 and 1785 Tithes ( tax Lists) William Johnson's neighbor was Blackmore Huhes of Buffaloe Creek and one Rowland Chiles. My DNA is a match to those researching the lines of Michael Johnson who died in 1718 Henrico Co. Va. There is a Hughes Family in the descendants of Michael Johnson. I descend from Hudson Johnson who lived with William Johnson when he lived with him in 1780. Tony ----- Original Message ----- From: P. If you live in Lynchburg, you could go to the Clerk's Office and perhaps get this info. Also, clerk at the County Seal in Rustburg, VA would have this info. I think you are exactly right based on my own past study & researching. In order to convince the doubters, you might want to tell them the bond, the minister's return, and the consent notes are different documents, created by entirely different people, for different reasons, & usually at different points in time, e. g. the Bond has a date and after the wedding was performed a bit later sometimes, the minister filled out and signed & dated his "return" to the County Clerk. A "consent note" usually has a date earlier than the Bond date, but sometimes the same day. Some consent notes created by a parent or guardian also have witnesses who signed in agreement......... those names are very often good clues to other relatives if not known aforehand by the researcher. Hey Scott, I take it that you live in Richmond, VA. Well, the County Seat of Campbell Co. is in Rustburg, Campbell Co., VA. Take Rt. 29 South out of Lynchburg for about 15 to 20 miles, as you cross the railroad tracks, turn to the right and you'll go right by the courthouse. Wish you the best. Well this is very interesting!! Thank you for several reasons. My Grandmother remembered being raised around her Grandmother, Buena Vista Stone Gorenflo. Vista's death record says she was born in Charlstanburg Va? July 5, 1859. Another source says she was born in Christanburg, VA. I have a photo of her, she is beautiful. Her father James Terry Stone was born February 22, 1830 in VA, died and buried Madison County, Hot Springs, once Warm Springs NC. He was a Bricklayer/Stone Mason. It is possible that James and his brother John are on the Missouri, Jackson Co., Kansas City census in 1860. I am unaware of the 1850 census of Martha W. My William Stone, father of James Terry, appears to have been born around 1795. I am very interest in the William who married Martha W. What was Hudson Blankenship's occupation? William Stone married Martha "Patsy" Worsham abt 15 Feb 1779, when the bond was issued. The land is located on the east Side of Wolf Branch being Martha Stone's part of land which her father Drury Worsham lived on whe he departed this life. Wit William Worsham Edmund Booker Jr & William Holloway Rec. 23 Oct 1783 after Martha wife of William Stone relinquished her dower right. I don't know the relationship between Hudson Blankenship and William Stone, or why Hudson was the executor of William Stone's will. Hudson Blankenship was my GGGGgrandfather. Basically, The William Stone in 1850 may be the son of the William Stone listed above. If he was a neighbor of Hudson Blankenship's, they he was living near what was Winfall, Campbell Co VA, often referred to the Otter Station census tract, and sometimes falling River. Winfall was a train stop at one time, with a school, Church, and a store. Some buildings, including the train station still stand, but most are not in use at this point. This William Stone had to be close to Hudson Blankenship's land. That's is son, Archer (Archibald) and Hudson's wife, Edith, who were witnesses. There were other Stone families in both Campbell and Pittsylvania Co, but the use of Martha W in the 1850 census caught my attention. Can't help you much in proving one to another, but it's a place to look. If you can't find anything else, chase the land. Oh, there was a William Stone m Elizabeth Calloway abt 1806. Bond reads Nov 15 1806 William and Elisabeth Calloway, dt Caleb, David Calloway Surety. Could be the son of the William Stone above or any of the others. Just a thought. I think, given the estate went on an one, for the William d. 1799, the children were fairly young, and probably not marrying in 1806/1807, but...
