William Hay, one of the Executors, was granted a certificate for obtaining probate. Daniel Evans was his security. Genealogy, Miami Beach, FL "Campbell Co., VA Wills1782-1800" (Will Book 1) published 1991, pp 58, 59] Wills, 1782 - 1800" (Will Book 1), published 1991, pp 58, 59. From "VIRGINIA WILLS BEFORE 1799" BY Wm. M. Clemons (1924) Copied from Courthouse Records of Amherst, Bedford, Campbell, Loudon, Prince William & Rockbridge Counties, VA. DOUGLASS, ROBERT Campbell Co., VA. Will filed September 4, 1794 s. James Douglass s. Joshua Douglass d. Nancy Douglass bro. Achilles Douglass bro. Billy Douglass bro. Robert Douglass These two copies of same will by Robert Douglass, I are different. The reason I'm questioning the second one is I know that the father of Robert Douglass, I was named John Douglass, and his mother was Mary Cummins, according to bible records. a.. I am aware that Achilles Douglass was a son of John Douglass, of Orange Co., VA, but lived in Campbell Co. VA for many years. I'm not aware if Achilles had brothers that were named Billy and Robert. This second copy of his so-called Will names Achilles, Billy and Robert as brothers to my Robert Douglass, who also had a son, Robert Douglass, as well as James, Joshua, Betty, Nancy, Mary, & Jane. The reason for my asking about this is the Bible Records told the names of Robert's parents, but gave no indication that they came to America at the same time with him. If there was a way to prove that the John Douglass of Orange Co., VA could be the father of my Robert, that would open up lots of research on my part. Another question I would like to know. In some land records sold by Robert Douglass, it called his property "Patent Land". Is there anyplace that I could find out about this "Patent Land". So far, I've never found anything in print regarding him having a Patent for land. Georgia H.

Katherine Trent West passed away yesterday in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. My condolences to the family. Her obituary says that her parents were Roland and Elsie Trent. I have a Roland Hopson Trent in my database born about 1855 (son of John Henry Trent and Lucretia Hudson). Katherine was born in 1910, so that's a bit of a stretch. If my Roland was her father, he would have been 55 when she was born... not too old of course, but getting up there. Does anyone have knowledge of this family, and can anyone give me more information that might help me make the connection to my Trents? What was her father's middle name, and what were the name of her grandparents? Drema http://genealogy.drema.com

Helen, That sounds like too big of a coincidence to be a coincidence... that Thomas Dewey Hurt, Jr. had two sons named Gary and Brian, and he met and married a woman who had two sons named Gary and Brian (Unless, of course, they met when they were both members of the "People who have sons named Gary and Brian Club") :-) Although we sometimes see some unusual things in family trees, usually if it seems like too big of a coincidence to be one, it's probably because there's an error there somewhere. Perhaps you can confirm on your trip to Virginia. Drema Helen Rynd wrote: > The dates were given to me by his mother.Aunt Virginia. The dates were given to me by his mother.Aunt Virginia. Tommy is younger than my self so the age is correct. Tommy and Mae Anna Had 2 sons,I think they are Gary b;1963 and Brian ,b;1966 Linda had 2 sons when she married Tommy, I think they are Gary Prillman; b;161 and Brian 1967. Then Linda and Tommy had 4 sons.Michael, Jamie, Josha and Justin. One of his sons is a preacher, not sure which one. I will ask about the family this fall when I go to Va.in Sept.. Jamie built the deck on our mobile home there. ----- Original Message ----- From: "DOC HURT" <doc.hurt@worldnet.att.net> To: <VACAMPBE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, August 10, 2006 9:13 AM Subject: Re: [VACAMPBELL] Re: John Marshall Clemens > Hey Helen, > If Linda was born in 43, that would make her 63, and that Tommy didn't > look all that old when I saw him about 5 years ago. Doc, Perhaps the Tommy you are remembering is not Thomas Dewey Hurt, Jr. but his son,Tommy Prillman Hurt, who was born August 2, 1963 (although I'm not sure if he is one of the son's from Linda's previous marriage. Helen, did you ever sort out which of the sons were from Linda's prior marriage? I have all six listed as Hurts and sons of Thomas Dewey Hurt, Jr.) Also, this family lived in Bedford County, so there might be more people on the Bedford County list who have knowledge of the family than on the Campbell County list. Marilyn Many years ago, you kindly pointed me to t he right direction in finding Ralph Jackson and Lea's Williams. To day, I know my direct line back to Ralph and about the mid 1800's, they moved to the area of Charlotte Co, and then Campbell, and later Bedford, but back to Campbell and then to Pittsylvania. I was wondering what families in Campbell you are collecty. If I can find some, I'll send them along if you want to send me a surname list? -----Original Message----- From: Marilyn J. All of these are clues to know where they might come from. Depending on when they got there and where they are in the county you can make a guess on where to look for them next. The migrations to Campbell are down from Pennsylvania starting as early as the 1740s Others come from the Northern Neck in Virginia. Also the Richmond area both north and south of the James. You also get a few people off the Wagon Road ( roughly Route 11) who may have made a stop in the area around Winchester. Is your William Harris the one who dies in 1832 with a will in Campbell? The information I have put together (I'm collecting Campbell people ) has connections to the Lynches and Butterworths. Is your family Quaker at this point in time? If they are you want to check Hinshaw if you haven't yet. VA Room at Fairfax has if RELIC doesn't. It is in print and on CD. Any one knowing of a Rebecca Arthur in Bedford, about 1830 or so. Could be 5-7 years later. She was born about 1807, so figuring an earlier marriage, I'd guess perhaps they were married about 1826/30. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HBC.2ACI/1216 Message Board Post: Searching for any information regarding a William Green, who married Judith Ann Gordon in Campbell Co.Va. on Feb 6, 1792. He eventually owned property there for a short time in late 1792, but left for parts unknown. I'm particularly interested in where he may of come from. One of his son's census records state that he was born in England. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !
Hey Helen, Do you know who Tommy's first wife was and his second wife. I do know that Tommy's second wife was much younger than he is. I've tried to find him in the Roanoke phone book, but could not. I do know that there were a lot of people, I think, people did not like the fact that he married a much younger girl. The next time I go to Roanoke, I'll look-up their marriage license. Will let you know what I find out.
