    3. Thanks Helen. I will do some checking on this. Actually her maiden name was Gill, but I have always wondered where the "Board" came from. I'm sure she was born in or around Lynchburg, VA. Thanks for your help Niceta

    3. Where was your Cleopatra Board born? There is or was a toombstone in an old Board cemetery off route 122 south of Bedford , on the right across from what use to be the Old Hendricks store near Smith Mountain Lake , near Hales Ford Bridge. Some people have been eskervading the land ,so I don't know if they destroyed the Board Cemetery or not.Since no one took care of it. I do not live in Va anymore , but the Bedford Co. Genealogy at the Museum has records of the Board Cemetery. You may inquire with them. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Niceta Milner" <nicetamilner@wowway.com> To: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com>; <vacampbe@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 06, 2007 11:31 AM Subject: [VACAMPBE] Fortune/Gill marriage. > Could SKS find a marriage record for Charles McDonald Fortune and > Cleopatra (Patra) Board Gill, 15 Mar. 1877, or the birth of George Edward > Fortune (their son, my grandfather) on > 22 Feb. 1879. > > Thanks for any help. > > Niceta Milner > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > VACAMPBE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > -- > No virus found in this incoming message. > Checked by AVG Free Edition. > Version: 7.5.467 / Virus Database: 269.6.4/790 - Release Date: 5/5/2007 > 10:34 AM > >

Miscellaneous Virginia Genealogy: http://vagenealogy.homestead.com/ has various kinds of records and Old Virginia Obituaries, 1790-1940: http://virginiaobits.homestead.com/ I hope you find some ancestors on these sites. Also have many helpful links for genealogy. Please feel free to write to me about genealogy. God bless, Beth deliaesther@att.net

    1. [VACAMPBE] Campbell Co., VA Land Tax Records
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: dtpm64 Surnames: Trent, Callaham, Daniel, Webber, Blankinship Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.virginia.counties.campbell/2131/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Taxes paid on land provide clues about the people who lived near each other and possible relationships. The microfilmed Campbell Co., VA Land Tax records are annual records showing a minimum of the land owners name followed by the acreage that he paid taxes on. In later years additional information about the location of the property was added, such as: name of a nearby stream or road, number of miles and direction from the courthouse at Rustburg, and value of the land. I recorded every Trent name and randomly some other names that I felt would be relevant. With the exception of Trent, the lack of a particular name or acreage just indicates that I chose to ignore it and does not mean it wasn't on the tax record in that year. If there is more than one tax district it is stated following the year as North, South, or the name of the Commissioner responsible for collecting the tax. 1782: Alex. To see the actual names of Americans they have to be ordered from the Record Office in Kew. I do not have them, just thought this might be of interest to y'all! Pass it on, and if somebody orders it let me know! Very briefly: Prisoners of war to 1793 .......Before 1793 the few records available relate largely to French or American prisoners in British custody. Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars 1793-1815 ......all prisoners from 1796 whatever their service or nationality, were the responsibility of the Admiralty's Sick and Hurt Board, later called the Transport Board. . Subsection 1 Of the French Wars Period ...... there is an alphabetical list of American prisoners compiled by the University of Virginia, available at the National Archives [UK].
