One was Elizabeth PRESTON Gilbert who was married to Jarvis Gilbert of Harford Co. MD. After Jarvis died she married a Michael GASH. Elizabeth and Jarvis had a daughter named Nancy Gilbert who came to Bedford Co. with her mother and step-father. Nancy Gilbert married Thomas HELM in Bedford Co. The part of the county they lived in must have become part of Campbell Co. These Gilberts were from Baltimore and Harford Co. MD. I don't know of any connection to any PA Gilberts. 3. Some of these Gilberts such as Aquilla, Sr. were connected to Jarvis Gilbert who died in Harford Co. MD. I'm not sure when they left Harford Co. and came to Campbell Co. although it was Bedford Co. then. I'm interested in some females named Gilbert. After Jarvis Gilbert died, his widow, Elizabeth PRESTON Gilbert married a Michael GASH. Later the family moved to VA. Jarvis and Elizabeth had a daughter named Nancy who moved with them. She married Thomas HELM. They were supposedly married in Jan. 1774 in Bedford Co. but I have never been able to find a marriage record for them. The 1790 and the 1800 Virgina censuses were burned in a fire. Not sure which branch and exactly when but one of the departments had a fire. Anything you see now is reconstructed from other sources. The best replacement for the census is tax records. Netti Schriner-Yantis and Florine Speakman Love did a three volume set titled the 1787 census of Virginia. This was taken from the 1787 and 1788 personal property tax records of all of the then Virginia counties. There are individual booklets for each county. Not sure what is still in print. John Frederick Dorman published the 1800 personal property taxes for all the counties in the Virginia Genealogist (done alphabetically). He just finished publishing with volume 50 and I believe they are all indexed in printed indexes. I know there are printed index volumes for volumes 1-20 and volumes 21-35. Hope you find your ancestor, Marilyn Jackson Fairfax, VA

    3. I found one Charles Taylor of Campbell County, VA, signed his Will Oct. 3, 1799. He devised his whole estate [no detail] to his wife during her natural life, and requested her to make a division of estate as she think proper among their children at her death [no names]. Witnesses were J. Morris, Joseph Aikin. The wife was named as Executrix, but her given name doesn't appear until the will was proved in Court Apr. 14, 1800, at which time Mary Taylor, Executrix, was granted certificate for obtaining probate. William Reed and Joseph Aikin were her securities. (Campbell Co. VA Will Book 1, p. 416) [My source: T. L. C.
