The possible confusion here is that there are 2 units (each with there own Howard book) one is the 22nd Virginia Inf and the other is the 22nd battlion. The Charlotte men are in the battalion. There is also an artillary unit which has a number of Charlotte men in it. In the A E howard series there is a book of letters home by John Lee Holt who is a son of James F. There is quite a bit of family material in the letters. Marilyn Jackson
<PRE>I have a Grace or Alice Holt who was married to someone with the surname Crump. This Miss Holt was the daughter of Burwell Nicholas Holt and Charlotte Elizabeth East. Burwell Nicholas Holt was the son of James F. Holt (I believe the F. may have stood for Foster; but I am not absolutely certain of that). James F. Holt was married to Sarah Mason who was the daughter of John Mason III and Nancy Clark.
I knew of two Harding Families that lived on 10th St. in Lynchburg, VA in the early 40's to late 50's. I know a little about this family. If I can be of any help, let me know. Many Masons from this area were in the 56th VA Infantry, although I couldn't find William Leonidas Mason. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I've found info online for this family dating back to James F. Holt, Sr. around the turn of the 19th century. I think that they were involved with Bethel Baptist Church in Charlotte County, and Beulah Baptist Church in Campbell County near Brookneal. As for R. J. Holt himself. The history of the 56th Virginia Infantry Regiment shows an R. J. Holt in Company I, being discharged sometime in 1861. My great-grandmother was Grace Eliza Holt from Charlotte County, and I suspect that she was the daughter of Burwell Nicholas Holt, who was in turn the son of James F. Holt, Jr. I've tried to make contact with other Holt descendents, but no luck so far. Let me know if you make any headway.

If anyone has any information regarding the "Old Bradley Home Place" on the Collins Ferry Road in Gladys that they would be willing to share, I would appreciate a post to the list. Information is that the homeplace was built around 1820, and it was also used as a school. There is an old Bradley family cemetery on the property. Thanks, Amelia

Does anyone on this list have any connection to this woman? I would like to find out her year of birth. There is probably some way to do that on-line, but I have not yet found it. (She was born in Illinois, probably in the late 1880s, probably near Monmouth.) She also has connections to HENRY, HARDING, and BUTTERWORTH. Many thanks--EB --------------------------------------------------------- Ellen Oehler Blackstone Everything connects...
