No relation to me, just thought some of you may be interested. Sunday, December 29, 2002 The News & Advance, Lynchburg, VA Marion Lewis Collins Marion Lewis Collins, 94, of Lynchburg passed away Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, in Drinkard Health Center. Born Aug. 29, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Colonel Langhorne Dabney and Helen Armistead Lewis. She was the wife of the late Edson Wheatly Collins. Mrs. Collins was born in Lynchburg but later resided in Norwich, N.Y. She retired to Lynchburg and later resided at Westminister-Canterbury. She was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church and a volunteer at Guggenheimer Nursing Home and Meals on Wheels. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Randall Holt Chapter, Daughters of the American Colonists. Mrs. Collins had great pride in her heritage which was reflected in her activities and accomplishments. Her grandmother, Elizabeth Dabney Langhorne Lewis, was, for almost 60 years, an officer of the Southern Memorial Association and led that organization in its important early efforts to preserve the Confederate Section of the Old City Cemetery. Although Mrs. Collins lived much of her early married life out of the area, she was a generous supporter of the continuing work of that organization in her later years. She enjoyed an occasional drive through the cemetery ground to visit the place that was so important to her grandmother. Genealogical research was an interesting hobby and resulted in Mrs. Collins being a co-compiler along with Lucy Harrison Miller Baber, and Louise Ann Blunt, of the book, "Marriage and Deaths of Lynchburg, Virginia Newspapers," 1794-1836. Its publication in 1980 was a project of the Randall Holt Chapter, National Society of Daughters of American Colonists, and today serves as a vital and invaluable resource for genealogist. Mrs. Collins is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was appreciative of all her caregivers and companion, Arden Callen. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Lewis Terry, Langhorne Lewis Kellam, and one brother Harry T. Lewis. Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Spring Hill Cemetery by the Rev. Frank G. Dunn. Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels Inc., 605 Clay Street, Lynchburg, VA 24504 or Old City Cemetery, 401 Taylor Street, Lynchburg, VA 24501. Diuguid Wiggington Chapel is in charge of arrangements, 385-8900.

They are doing alot of work there. I have a William H. Trent b. abt Jan 1853 who married Mildred Eads (b. abt. Sept 1856) in Campbell County on March 19, 1874. They had five children total as follows: Susan Eliza b. abt. June 1876, Ann H. b. abt 1878, Willie C. Trent b. abt 1879, James E(?) b. abt May 1881 and Mary A. b. abt May 1884. This info is a combination of 1880 and 1900 census of Brookville twp in Campbell Co. Virginia. There is also listed a Garrie L. Trent, D. in Law b. abt Oct 1878 and a Wd, mother of no children. It is possible that she is the wife of Willie C. and that he had passed by 1900. Anyway, this is not what you were looking for, I know. But I am looking for the Eades line. And they are very helpful on Genforum. Good luck and happy hunting. Connie
Suggest you search Bedford County records for one or more "William Brown". Campbell County was formed from Bedford in 1782. There's an overlap in Publick Claim entries for some Bedford & Campbell names because they were residents of Bedford when making their "donations" in 1780/1, but certificates issued to them as residents of Campbell in 1782. Bedford Publick Claims shows William Brown with 9 records. Campbell Publick Claims shows William/Wm Brown with 6 records and William Brown Senr. with 2 records. Bedford County Personal Property Tax Lists 1787 have "William Brown' on List A, and another(?) on List B. Campbell County Personal Property Tax Lists 1787 have 'William Brown' on List A who was also liable for tax of Bird Brown (typically a father-son relationship); another 'William Brown' on List B. One William Brown filed a marriage bond in Bedford County Dec. 7, 1789, for his intended marriage to Sarah Payne with consent of John and Mary Payne, and William Payne as surety for the bond. Based on browsing quickly, it looks like you could search a dozen or so Browns before 1790 and hopefully find one you're looking for. Best of Luck. I do not know where the name Abner Dudley came from ,nor do I know who the parents of William Dudley were. I can only trace him back to 1746 or 49 in Goochland/ Cumberland county before he moved to Bedford(later Campbell co.) and married Ann Owen around 1771.He must have been married before and had Armistead Dudley and maybe Chloe Dudley who married John Welch and moved to N.C.,because thei! r B.dates are before 1771( when he married Ann) Some of his earlier land deeds are signed by William and an Elizabeth Dudley.Wish I could be of more help!
