Another very good resource is the Jones Memorial Library in Lynchburg http://www.jmlibrary.org/ Also a few have offered to look him up in books they own. But I found a wonderful resource that I would like to share. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp You can search the family history library and then order the films at your local LDS church.. They have quite a few for Campbell County and I am working on a timeline for TMG so that I can remember which ones they have. My husband's ancestor was born in 1802 in Campbell Co., VA and paid taxes in 1826 in Simpson County, KY. I am assuming that he moved at some point between 1820, when his father was enumerated on the 1820 census (and I believe him also) and 1826 when he paid taxes. Is there somewhere online where I can find out what records were available for Campbell County between 1802 and 1826 so that I can order those and see what I can find out about his life before 1826. TIA Teresa Ghee Elliott
I am looking for the parents of David John WOOD born in Campbell Co March 9, 1810. He married Jane Davis THOMPSON born Campbell Co Oct 3, 1803. They were married on Dec. 5, 1828 Campbell Co. This family migrated first of Rockbridge Co, VA then Williamson Co, TN and then to Northern California by 1851. Maria E. Brower, Grass Valley, CA
I don't have any information on this line of Johnsons but I do have the couple Agnes Clark and Benjamin Johnson in my database. I am researching Clarks. Agnes Clark was born about 1716 and died around 1754. She was married around 1728 to Benjamin Johnson. Agnes was the daughter of Christopher Clark and Penelope Johnson. This line of Clarks are distant cousins to my own. They emigrated to Campbell and Charlotte Cos. from Louisa County, VA. These Clark lines repeatedly used the names John, Christopher, Francis, Micajah, Edward, and Robert making them extremely hard to follow. It is not unusual to find 3 1st cousins with the same common names.

This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: LEE TAYLOR GUTHRIE SMITH MARSH Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HBC.2ACI/776.1 Message Board Post: Hi! This message ended up being longer than I had intended- but you got me started on the Lee's and before I knew I spilled the beans about much of what I've found. Please forgive the length, as you may already know everything I'm revealing. I have been researching my own family for over 40 years, on and off again, but I hail from Pittsylvania County, although I have ancestors who came from Campbell and Bedford counties. Whenever I get frustrated with my own lines, I'll take an occasional peek at my wifes, and usually find myself traveling back in time at least a couple of generations on one of her lines. My wife, who was a "Smith" from Bedford county, is descended from Alexander Lee and Sarah Guthrey (Guthrie) Lee, who were married 07MAR1795 according to the book "A Weaving", which concerns the history of that branch of the Lee family. If you're not familiar with it, there is a copy of that book in the Jones Memorial Library here in Lynchburrg I'm pretty sure. Not sure where you're located, but a phone call to the library would be wise if you're thinking of going there. Anyway, here's my wife's tie-in: Linda Smith, daughter of Harry Feagans Smith and Edith Woodford. Harry Feagans Smith, son of Harry Smith and Nora Feagans. Harry Smith, son of Robert (Bob) Smith and Lelia Fisher, who were first cousins as their mothers were "Marsh" sisters. Robert (Bob) Smith, son of James Allen Smith and Martha Jane Marsh, married 11AUG1846. Martha Jane Marsh, daughter of William Marsh and Martha (Patsy) J. Lee, married 17DEC1813. Martha (Patsy) J. Lee, daughter of Alexander Lee and Sarah Guthrey Lee, married 07MAR1795. By the way, ,Alexander Lee and Sarah Guthrie Lee were children of brothers (William and John Lee), thereby making Alexander Lee and Sarah Guthrie Lee first cousins also as well as man and wife. Alexander Lee, son of William Lee who was born 1734 and who married in 1768 Ava Noel of Bristol, England. William Lee was a private in Revolutionary War and died in 1803- he is buried in Campbell County in a pasture back of the old original Lee house that was still standing a few years ago on Leesville Road. I have not been to the tombstone, but have driven by the old house, and have seen pictures in the book "A Weaving". By the way, Ava Noel was born in 1745 and died in 1820 according to "A Weaving". Sarah Guthrey (Guthrie) Lee (the Guthrey spelling is from the "A Weaving" book), daughter of John Lee, Sr, who had the title "Captain" and who married Susannah Guthrie in 1769 and I have a note about his will being recorded in 1818. I also have a note that Susannah was born in 1752 and died in 1778, source "A Weaving". Makes me think she may have died giving birth? William Lee, b 1734, was son of Charles Lee, ,who was born 18SEP1706, married Ann Dabbs in 1732, and died in 1799 according to "A Weaving". Note that John Lee, Sr, born 1736, who married Susannah Guthrie, and who died in 1819, was also the son of Charles Lee and Ann Dabbs. Thus William and John Lee were brothers according to "A Weaving". Charles Lee, b 18SEP1706, was the son of William Lee, born approx 1678, who married Dorothy Taylor, born 1682, all according to "A Weaving". Now the info above ties into and overlaps for about 3 generations of Lee's with another book titled "From Log Cabin to the White House" which was written by an ancestor of Zachary Taylor, and the info below is from that book. Dorothy Taylor, born 1682, was the daughter of Thomas Taylor. This Thomas Taylor was a descendant of Raleigh Taylor who was raised by Arch-Bishop of Canterbury during the reign of Henry VIII in the early 1500's. Raleigh Taylor is documented in the Book of Martyrs written in 1610 by Edward Fox who goes on to describe how Raleigh Taylor died at the hands of the Catholics who eventually returned to power under Mary some time after Henry VIII died. All this, alonmg with Lee tie-in and the Taylor lines back to Raleigh, is documented in "From Log Cabin to WHite House" book. I have not indedpendently verified all of the above- I did trace my wife's line back to Alexander and Sarah Lee using first source records, but anything beyond that came from the two quoted books.. William Lee, born approx 1678 according to "A Weaving" and born 1682 according to "From Log Cabin to White House", was the son of Col. Willam Lee, born 1646, who married Alice Pelton, widow of Thomas Pelton, all per "From Log Cabin to WHite House". The author of "From Log Cabin to WHite House" has therefore tied in our William Lee to the Col. WIlliam Lee, born 1642, of Stratford Hall, and proceeds to carry the Lee line back further into the Stratford Hall Lees. However, F.W. Alexander in his book "Stratford Hall- the Lees" - says there were no male heirs of Col William Lee. So something is amiss with the research of one of those authors. That's enough for now/hope you write back and tell me how you're connected to Alexander and Sarah Lee, O' cousin of my wife! later, roger barbour
