Mike, You can follow her in the personal property tax lists until she doesn't appear. That point would be a good place to look for the disposition of the slaves and the livestock. These could either be hers for life from the estate of her husband or they could have been her dowry. You should also look on the land tax records and see if you can determine where she is living and if the property is held by the estate of her husband or if she has a life estate and the property owner is a son or daughter (son-in-law) would appear in the tax list. There are sometimes notes or alterations in the land tax book when the land changes hands. Thus if she followed a child to some place else or died it may be noted in the alterations section of the tax book. You can borrow these records from the Library of Virginia if you live in Virginia or bring them into a Morman library.
Mike, for one thing Elizabeth was listed on the 1787 Pers. Prop. Tax List for Campbell, List B. Her property was 6 blacks, 2 horses, 10 cattle. In clearing this some brush, I uncovered a footstone with the initials "FBM". Although the footstone is in good shape, the headstone has disintegrated long ago. I thought that the two initials may be a match. Was "Bessie" your grandmother's middle name? There are no other gravesites in the area. Do you know of your grandmother's final resting place? If not, perhaps this is it.

Not sure if Rody was correct name, but that is the name on my great great grandmother, Judy (Judith) Dearing Walker's death certificate. Judy had three sons by a Fontleroy slave master. She named them John Anderson Dearing, William, and James. I don't know of any middle name or initial for the two younger sons. She married Samuel Walker sometime after 1865. She had many children by Samuel Walker. She died in 1916. Any information on Anderson Dearing, Rody or Judith "Judy" and her family is greatly appreciated. April Hickman

The names you mention here Charles Revely and son I think should actually be Revely Carwile, Jr., he is the President of the CCHS and Chuck Bradner a Board Member and Vice President of Membership of the CCHS. Revely Carwile, Sr. is also a member of the CCHS and is very active. I am also a Board Member and Secretary for the CCHS. I have all of the book that have been published to date and will do look ups but for specific names only. Although there is and index there are several volumes and just asking for the surnames "CALLAHAN" would be too much. It would also be a big help if you knew the general area they were thought to be buried at but it is not necessary. If you ask for a look-up please put lookup in your subject line or something pertaining to CC for I do delete e-mail if I don't recognize the name or subject. Please be patient, I am working on several projects and it may take a couple days to get to you. All the book are available for purchase from the CCHS, They are: Family Cemetery Volumes 1 - 10, Public Cemetery Volume 2 at $6.00 per copy, Church Cemetery Volumes 1- 10 and Public Cemetery Volumes 1 and 3 are $12.00 per copy, this price does include postage. To order any or all of these books write to Campbell County Historical Society, P.O. Box 560, Rustburg, VA 24588. If anyone has any knowledge of a cemetery that has not been surveyed whether it is a family or forgotten church cemetery please contact the CCHS with the details.
