The Bedford Co. home page gives a link to Hinshaw's abstracts and shows a minister's return for the marriage of: Granvil Arther and Frances Deacon Mar. 22, 1842....married by John Ayres. No Bond information is shown. The marriage bonds and minister's returns for Bedford and Campbell in Hinshaw's Encyclopedia aren't Quaker records. In other words the existing bonds weren't created by Quakers, but by the County Clerks. When Ministers reported the weddings they had performed, those reports were saved in the file by the County Clerks. Hinshaw found and added minister's returns to his abstracts when he found them. If Quaker couples wanted to get married using the common civil process there wasn't any law preventing them. But they did risk being dismissed from their Monthly Meeting. Hinshaw has hundreds of entries for members being dismissed for a variety of reasons. Sometimes they were re-instated. Bill Hunt ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marilyn J. Hi, I checked my Virginia marriage CD and a CD I have of Hinshaw's Quaker records which includes marriages for Campbell and Bedford counties. I do not believe that the marriages for Lynchburg are on these CDs. I could only find one reference with David and Nancy in the records. This was the marriage record of Greenville/Granville Arthur and Frances Dakin who was the daughter of David and Nancy. David is noted as deceased. I found several people who are in the records also spelled as Deacon. Is your family related to the Quaker family of this name that ends up in Ohio? There is a Jonathan Deacon married to Sally Crews in Amherst Co. The bond date is Dec 3, 1787. This Jonathan appears to be the father of several women named Dakin or variations who marry in Bedford County in the 1820s and 1830s. Sorry I couldn't find your marriage, Marilyn Jackson

These were scanned from an original issue (NOT microfilm!) of the Lynchburg Virginian newspaper dated January 26, 1854, and you can see them online here: http://theoldentimes.com/wilsfrank54campva.html and http://theoldentimes.com/wmhmosby54campva.html I'll be adding some more tonight, but you can access any and all Campbell County & Lynchburg newpaper articles, etc., from http://theoldentimes.com/campbell.html I hope they're helpful! I am trying to find the burial location of Francis William Scott. I would VERY much appreciate some look-up help in Campbell and Halifax Counties. He was married to Mary Clementine Payne on December 24, 1837. They had the following children: Alice F. born about 1842 m. Nicholas Owings; Joseph W. Scott born about 1843 in Campbell Co., VA; Ben H. Scott born about 1853 in Campbell Co., VA; and Mary Ella Scott born 4/13/1856 in Whitehall, Campbell Co., VA m. John T. Moore, Jr. Francis W. Scott last appears in the Campbell County, VA, US Census in 1860. His wife, Mary, and daughter, Mary Ella Scott, are found in the Allegany, Maryland, US Census in 1870. (Living next door to Mary and Francis' oldest daughter and her husband....Nicholas and Alice Owings. Therefore, I would assume that Francis W. Scott died sometime during the 1860's. Mary Clementine Payne is buried in Frederick, Frederick, MD in a plot with Nicholas and Alice Owings and Lulie Moore (first daughter of Mary Ella Scott and John T. Moore, Jr., having died at the age of 10 of diphtheria). Another note that may help......I have found Francis W. Scott in the 1840 U.S. Census • Virginia • Halifax • North District. I "believe" this is the same family. Thank you, Jan Newsom ps. Anyone else researching this family, please contact me at [email protected]
I am looking for information concerning James Hamlet who died about 1836 in Campbell County and was married to an Elizabeth Fuqua. In his will he leaves property to "My surviving children viz. Lucy Hamersly; John Hamlet; Armistead Hamlet; Elizabeth Wilson and James Hamlet to each receive 1/9 part of my estate." In an inventory found in another will book Lucy Hamersly's legatees seem to be James B. Hamersley, William B. Hamersley, Sarah Hammersley, Mary T. Hamersley, Nancy Jane Hamersley, and Richard Mann. I believe Nancy Jane Hamersley may be my great-great grandmother. I was wondering if anyone on the list can tell me anything about James Hamlet and his relationship to Lucy Hamlet. Does anyone know anything about a Richard Hamersley who married a Lucy "Hamlet" in 1807? Thank you.

My Jacob purchased land from his brother-in-law Lynch, raised his family there and lived there the remainder of his life. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.
