    2. If you happen to run across anything about the 2nd Regiment VA Militia under Capt. John Hewitt and Col. Amber, I would greatly appreciate anything you could share. I understand that Adam Beard enlisted with them in August,1814 and was discharged in Nov, 1814 at Camp Bottoms Ridge. I wish you the best of luck in your researches. mike beard

Depending on the source the information could relate to the unit he served with- in this case Nelson could be the officer 's name or Nelson County, VA. If it is a record of pensioners- Nelson Pens. could mean he applied for pension in Nelson County. It may also relate in someway to bounty land and the Nelson county in question is the one in Kentucky. Marilyn Jackson

I know that a lot of men in Campbell Co., VA were in Dickinson's 3rd VA Regiment militia, but it appears that some men in Campbell might have been in another unit (maybe the 5th VA Regiment). I also plan to look at a book that was written to explain how all of the units were formed and all of the changes that took place in the unit designations. I get the impression that some units may have recruited in different areas and may have had different designations over the years. By the way, was this the man who had a relative named Germina/Jermina/Mina Pendleton who married Giles Davidson (who lived in Buckingham Co., VA before moving to Amherst Co., VA in the early 1800s)? Giles had a son named Micajah Davidson. I will let you know what I can find on Micajah Pendleton.

    3. Lynchburg is actually not considered in Campbell County (or in any county). All cities in Virginia are independent of county government. 501 runs North and South. Going south out of Lynchburg, 501 will take you to Halifax County; north leads you to Rockbridge County. Hope this helps. 1. Re: [VACAMPBELL] Tax list for 1785--- Owen FRANKLIN
    2. william hunt
    3. Owen Franklin appears on the Bedford County Personal Property Tax List B for 1787. I don't have any lists for 1782. Owen is listed as being responsible for his own tax, meaning he was age 21 or over. His declared property was 1 horse and 2 cattle. He was visited by the Tax Commissioner on April 13. I don't have Campbell County marriage bond data at home. Bedford County bonds didn't have Owen, but did have other Franklin men. Since Campbell was formed from Bedford in 1782, hopefully someone with the data can fill you in!
