Hello, I am researching the Barnes Surname in Buckingham Co. up to about 1780. My interest is James Barnes who was born about 1750. He died in Howard Co., Missouri in 1822. The administrators of the probate were his wife, Nancy, and Joseph C. McKay. Securities were provided by Abraham Barnes, James Ray and William Monroe. The Appraisers were Daniel Monroe, William McKenzie and Boswell Pulliam. Probable children are James Barnes, b. abt 1780, m. Milly Ann, Anderson Barnes, m. Cynthia or Scotha Cannon, George W. Barnes, Azel Barnes. Family probably was in Rockingham Co., NC by 1780, then Kentucky before going to Missouri. James may be a brother of Chesley and Turbefield Barnes.
