The U.S. Census Compendium put out by Everton Publishers in 1973 lists not only the Federal census records available by state and county, but all the other "lists" that people use for a "census" count. Personal property tax lists, Buyers of "spirits", Baptist Petitioners, Land tax lists, and other things are used as such. But, no, I do not see a 1720 "tax list". A 1715 census for "Quit Rents" for Essex County, and a 1722? "Residents" of King William Parish is listed. At least that is all that I see for Virginia, Of course, my book may be way outdated, and there may be new material available now. I give them the benefit of the doubt. Anyone used them yet? Sandra
