My wife Brenda (birth name Cobb) is a direct descendent of Robert Bolling (ca. 1795-1870), son of Lenaeus Bolling and grandson of Col. Robert Bolling of Chellowe. We've pretty much fleshed out the family history over the past couple of years, but one big mystery remains. Robert Bolling's fourth (and final) wife, the mother of Susan Peyton Bolling (my wife's great-grandmother) was someone named "Frances" according to the 1850 census. Brenda and I have seen her name in only one other place: the 1879 Buckingham register recording the marriage of Susan P. Bolling and Henry L. Cobb(s). On that register the mother of the bride is listed as "Frances P. Bolling." We've been going on the hunch that Frances was born Frances Peyton, but we've found nothing. She appears in no census after 1850; perhaps she died in childbirth when Susan Bolling was born in 1851. Anyone know who Frances was? Any ideas on how we might find out? Thanks!
