Hello, Looking for information on the Matthews family of Buckingham CO. Maria A. E. Davis married John Matthews in about 1828. She was the dau. of Zachariah Davis. Family lore says that John Matthews was a slaveholder, and that he was killed by one of his slaves in 1829. The plantation was then sold and Maria and her newborn daughter left for the West with her father and siblings. Does this sound familiar to anyone on this list? We can account for Maria Matthews(Mathis) from 1838 in West Virginia (VA) until her death in Nebraska in 1877, but would like any information on John Matthews family, the name of plantation, any circumstances surrounding the death of John. John also had two brothers, we believe, Thomas and Anderson. Any help appreciated. Thank you. Phyllis Piccini
