My wife Brenda (nee Cobb) and I are researching her family's roots in Buckingham. Brenda is the daughter of Bolling Cobb (b. 1922 Buckingham, d. 1991 Lynchburg); gd of John Robert Cobb(s) (1884-1934, b. & d. in Buckingham); ggd of Henry Legare Cobbs (1853-1884, b. & d. in Buckingham); gggd of John W. Cobbs (1822-1879), b. & d. in Buckingham; and (we think) ggggd of John Cobbs, Sr. (b. ca 1793, d. 1860s?) If anyone's done some research into this particular family, we're very interested in (1) establishing whether or not John W. Cobbs was actually the son of John Cobbs, Sr.; (2) if he was, then who were the parents, etc. of John Cobbs, Sr.; (3) whether the names "Cobb" and "Cobbs" were interchangeable or when exactly (and why) the "s" was dropped; and (4) the birth names of Sarah A. Cobbs (wife of John W.) and Nancy F. Cobbs, wife of John, Sr. We have already reviewed the 1810-1870 census records and Buckingham Burials Vol. I. Thanks very much. Fred Hof
