In a letter written to his children in March 1843, my ggg-grandfather William C. Harris wrote: "Your Mother is dead. I suppose cancer killed her. She had stayed near New Canton at a doctor's house three months. She was attended by four doctors. After she died, I kept her out of the grave three days and she was buried in the grave yard on the plantation where she lived and died". Her name was Judith Griswold/Grizzle Harris died February 24, 1843 I have never found where these ancestors lived in Buckingham but am sure it was probably near New Canton. Has anyone seen anything written on the physicians in New Canton in 1843. I thought "attended by four doctors" was strange ----four physicians in New Canton at that time. Thank you.
