Hi Rose, Memoirs of Buckingham County and Along The James by Emily Maxey Jenkins states the following: In 1786, John Pankey, moved his family to Buckingham Co, now Appomattox. His land was on a road leading to the town of Bent Creek. He built a store called "Tower Hill". In 1815, John Pankey's estate consisted of 709 acres on David's creek - 18 miles west of courthouse. Four generations of this family operated Tower Hill store, from 1856 until 1934. It was a 3 story brick structure on the highest hill in the area. The upper floor was used as a meeting place for Masonic Lodge. People living near Tower Hill described the store, Post Office, and a shoe repair shop. It was torn down in the 1950's. I hope this helps. Fran Harris Hill Richmond, VA --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Next-gen email? Have it all with the all-new Yahoo! Mail Beta.
