William E;'s dad James was the son of William Phelps of Buckingham (present appomattox Co. ) William was the son of William Phelps whhose will is recorded in Albemarle co. dated 1749. This william was the son of Thomas Phelps Sr. whose will is recorded in Albemarle Co. dated 1751.
