    3. Posted on: Buckingham County, Va Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Buckingham/11079 Surname: Adcock ------------------------- I recently came across information that would imply he recruited for the Army. I am hoping this may assist you in finding any information out on this particular George Adcock. I have a George Adcock born early 1740s then one born early 1760s and then one born early 1790s. From Census information I am speculating that the George Adcock born 1760 was the individual that did the recruiting, however that would only make him a teenager. According to the 1820 Buckingham Co. VA and the Shelby Co. KY census there are each a George Adcock Sr. and George Adcock Jr. I am a direct descendant of George Adcock in KY. George had a son named William M. Adcock born KY. My grandfather explained to me that William's son Joel Adcock was his grandfather born about 1836 Shelby Co. Ky and then moved to Henry Co. KY with family late 1830s. As you can tell I have been very fortunate in regards to locating Census and tax information, however I have not been able to identify any of the George's wives except for William's brother George Adcock born mid 1790s and married 1820 to Elizabeth Vest in Shelby Co. KY. To make it even more confusing William Adcock born 1816 KY married Elizabeth Adcock born 1811 VA per marriage bond daughter of George Adcock. http://home.talkcity.com/LibraryDr/ken1967/marriagebond.htm. Any help in locating any early George Adcock information would be greatly appreciated. I am simply running out of resources. Buckingham co., Virginia, 1782. All of these are separate Adcock households, but I didn't record the # of Tithes and maybe not the kids names if there were any. 1782 (WHT+21, BLK+16, BLK-16, Horses, Cows Anderson John Joseph George Buckingham County VA tax rolls 1791 George (constable) Buckingham County VA tax rolls 1796 George (Constable, Geo & Joshua) 2 1 0 2 [this is odd, was one George a Constable, and then kids Geo & Joshua?, but if so then why only 2 tithes? I was then legally authorized to recruit for the army and the said Paslay was sworn in as a regular soldier by Colonel John Cavel of said county and marched from thence to Fredericksburgh and shortly afterward he was marched to the south and was taken prisoner at the siege of Charlestown in South Carolina and I think it was five years or nearly so before he was released and returned home. Given under my hand this 1st day of September 1826 his George X Adcock mark Shelby county [initials] I do hereby certify that the above certificate was sworn to and subscribed before me. Given under my hand as a Justice of the Peace in and for the county of Shelby this 1st day of September 1826 Geo. Bergen [I can't make out the initials here or next to Shelby county, above] In his application for a pension, Thomas Pasley says that he was taken to the West Indies. Also included in the papers is the following statement. Shelby County [initials illegible] I George Bergen do certify that George Adcock Sen'r (?) is a very old man by (?) his appearance and the best information I have he is [there is a blemish in the microfilm covering the word by, above, and the age, here, but I believe it says ninety] years old or upwards he appears to be a man of truth and veracity and there is no doubt but he was a recruiting official in the revolutionary war given under my hand this 24th day of November 1826 Geo Bergen [initials illegible] Also, I can't be sure about the word after George Adcock, above, but I think it is Sen'r Any help would be greatly appreciated.
