He was born January 16, 1952, the son of the late Herbert E. Maxey Sr. and Christine Shiflet Maxey, of Buckingham. He is survived by his wife, Jodi Sisson Maxey; five children, Corinne, Olivia, Thomas, Coulter, and Barrett Maxey; a brother, Herbert E. Maxey Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Buckingham; a sister, Linda Maxey Howard and her husband, Lem, of Charlottesville; five nephews and nieces, Herbert E. Maxey III "Tripp," Christina Maxey of Buckingham, and Lauren, Melissa, and Meredith Howard of Charlottesville. Larry was the owner of Maxey Exterior Design, Inc., and a member of the Virginia Society of Landscape Designers. He received numerous landscape awards from the "Keep Virginia Beautiful" campaign. Larry was an active member of Maysville Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, a past chairman of the deacon board, a trustee and a Sunday school teacher. Mr. Maxey graduated from Bridgewater College in 1974 where he lettered in several varsity sports and was tricaptain of the football team, held the career touchdown record for 20 years, and held the school's javelin record for 20 years as well. He also served as a youth league coach for numerous sports. Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 9, 2006, at the Maysville Baptist Church multi-purpose facility, with the interment at the Sharon Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Larry D. Maxey Educational Trust Fund, 195 Wellwater Road, Scottsville, VA 24590. Published in the Daily Progress on 4/9/2006.
